WNBA though? You got me with that one!
I was almost beaten to bar floor stain by a gang of drunk and fugly women basketball players. Or maybe they were female rugby players. Anyway, it kind of turned me on.

Just to let everyone know...this totally went off the rails.

If I can remember any of it, I'll fill those interested in.

This is now just for recap purposes:

Saturday Night
Total Wine & More - Liquor Store Warehouse

Purchased:
Fifth of Veil Vodka
Fifth of Jose Cuervo Especial
Fifth of Riverboat Rye

I needed to replenish Home Base and pick up some odds and ends for the week. Specifically, i wanted a flask. A nice flask that I could use AND show off. The attendant showed me a small collection, but none of them held up to my expectations of something regal. So I abandoned the thought, realizing that I'm going to have to buy something from Modern Drunkard [/cheap plug]. I went home and decided to drink.

Home Base:
3 Riverboat Rye's straight
1 shot of Veil Vodka

Mid-Atlantic Seafood
Jungle Juice (ingredients: Unknown)

Jack and Coke and I went out and pick up something to eat. She obviously drove.
She wanted to go out with me to eat and I needed fuel, so soul food it was. There's this spot in Laurel, Maryland, called Mid-Atlantic Seafood that's really good and doubles as a liquor store/bar that I frequent.

The question of whether it's good or not goes without saying because the place is always packed. Saturday was no different as an anxious crowd had gathered near the bar to watch the Washington Nationals struggle against the Houston Astros in the Nat's eventual 8-1 loss.

Mid-Atlantic is set up like a cafeteria. You can have food made-to-order, you can order from the food already prepared cafeteria-style, or you can go to the bar and order a drink. So while Jack ordered our food (made-to-order), I slid to the bar to keep this experiment going.

I ordered something called "Jungle Juice" that they didn't provide the ingredients for, but searching a bit online, I found a party-sized recipe:

1 bottle (750ml) vodka
1 bottle (750 ml) rum
1 quart cranberry juice cocktail
1/2 cup fresh lime juice
1 cup triple sec
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1 (15-ounce) can sliced pineapple with juice
1 orange, sliced
1 lemon, sliced
1 bottle (750 ml) demi-sec sparkling wine

I can't guarantee this is exactly the drink that I drank, but it's probably where things started dimming my memory for the weekend. We got our food, I chugged the drink in several gulps and happily hopped in the passenger seat. I was, of course, on vacation.

Oliver's Bar
1 double-well whiskey and coke
3 Bulleit bourbons

Ed. note: At this point, none of this drinking had been remembered by the writer and only recalled after rereading the saved draft of the night. Upon reading the drinking inventory, the writer loudly exclaimed, "Oliver's has Bulleit Bourbon?!" as he was entirely unaware of his Saturday night discovery.

All I can say for certain of this night was that the Nat's lost and were down. The city was down; emotionally down, while suddenly tied 2-2 in the series. This was something the city had seen before. Whether D.C.'s basketball team, the Wizards, or the city's American football team, the Redskins, we had grown accustomed to the sour and slimy, gelatinous taste of defeat. It hung heavy on our tongues; tongues that had grown accustomed to whispering admissions of submissions. The Nats eventually lost 8-1. I don't remember going home, or going to bed. But that's what we all did.

I have a thread dedicated to it, so why not reuse it? It's my favorite way of kicking off the Dark Season.

You see, I love Halloween.

And on Oct. 17, my birthday is its gateway; just like the ornamental architecture that greets one at the grinning mouth of every Chinatown in every major city.

That reminds me, Big Trouble in Little China is a great Halloween movie. I'm a watch it with Jack and Coke. I'll make some drinks, we'll have a ball...

Anyway.

It all starts here. Everything old is new again. There's nothing new under the sun.

Yadda yadda yadda

Today is Laurel, Maryland's Main Street Festival. It's normally an annual event where local businesses and vendors set up stalls along the stretch where families can spend the day. Of course with the pandemic, things changed. This is it's first year back and I plan on making the most of it.

Along with getting some funnel cake and festival eating oddities (fried oreos are surprisingly good), I'm going to visit and have a drink (maybe more) at every bar along Main Street.

That's right, I'm doing another crawl, and I'm documenting it. There will be blood, there will be violence, fire and passion. There will be cynicism, reality and acceptance. And of course, there will be booze.

HOME BASE:
Whiskey Sour
George Dickel Rye
Egg white
Simple Sugar
Lemon juice

Rye and Cider
Old Forester Rye Whiskey
Apple Cider

Alright, let's party...
