Godamn if that didn't work. Frozen solid to mostly liquid in about 15 minutes in a NON-preheated oven at 300 with lid removed.

If I may be permitted to quote from Alfred, Lord Tennyson's "Ulysses":

Moved earth and heaven; that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield."

No. He had a horrid divorce. Got remarried and now has a lovely wee lad.
Fatherhood doth take its toll.

Although we have suffered great losses: Tony, Fiona, Zoe and Tim. All now in Valhalla and giving Woden grief for his mean pours (and teaching the Aesir freeze-distillation).

I think the historical record certainly hints that ice distillation existed among the European Celts this maybe conjecture on my part but the Roman elite considered Celtic wine to be almost caustically alcoholic and would cut it by adding ice or snow to it. There is however good evidence that the Nordic and Russian peoples had ice distillation. The viking folk would often store alcohol in barrels outside so a good portion if the year ice distillation would have been de facto. I imagine the same was true of a good many of the Northern European populations.

All true(ish) but The Aesir would, necessarily, be older than The Vikings encountered by, for arguments we will call "the rest of the world"), their belief system already being in place. So, I believe that my thesis holds water (or ice).

Is the "ice distillation" you mention anything like I know? Back in my poor(er) college days I would put tubes of frozen apple juice concentrate with only half the recommended water and a packet of champagne yeast into a 5 gallon bucket with a CO2 airlock before sticking it in the closet for a week. Then, when the bubbler stopped, pour the liquid into Big Gulp cups and place cups in a freezer (those that weren't consumed immediately). In the morning half the concoction would be ice that was easily discarded and one was left with "Hard Cider" probably in the 30 proof ball park . A couple of those Big Gulp would usually get the party started.
