I think I'll change my name to Obadiah Poundage.
That would rule.

I need to try those.
One Porter that I have found to be quite good is, Anchor Porter.
Imeasure all others by it.

That is quite good but a bit rare around here. Another good one is Bell's Porter, also out of Michigan, I believe.

couple summer beers (review)

Post by Wingman »

1. Buffalo Bill's Brewery's Orange Blossom Cream Ale. 5.2% abv. overall, meh. don't avoid it if someone's buying, don't go out of your way for it. says it's brewed with honey, orange peel and orange flower extract (and "natural flavors" which can be about anything). it's also brewed with plenty of hops. less thick mouthfeel than other cream ales, which is good for summer, i guess. like most hoppy beers, would probably go better with food.

2. Shiner Hefeweizen. 5.4% abv. not bad. unfiltered, bottle conditioned, so naturally cloudy. if they were aiming for middle-of-the-road, broad appeal hefe, they got it. chuggable without being flavorless. brewed with lemon and orange peel, honey added. kind of a similar aftertaste to shiner bock, so they probably use the same malt. if you like shiner and you like hefeweizens, you'll probably like this.

3. HIGHLIFE! 5.5% abv still the champagne of beers. unbeatable after a workout or yardwork. imminently chuggable. goes well with pizza, burgers, boiled shrimp. quite possibly the perfect summer beer.

cheers!

Big fan of Highlife. Also enjoy a Natty Ice hear and there during the warmer months.

meh...

ive got an IPA and a scottish light ale on tap.
i brewed them specifically to be light summer beers.

i stay away from anything brewed with any peels or flowers. heather is tollerable but not among my favorite flavors for beer.

It's already time for summer beers? Oh my, time does fly. Just a couple a days ago I was snow-cleaning the driveway. Is this old-age, or early Alzheimer?

Don't forget to report back on how it tasted.
