Oahu, I am disappoint

Post by Emperor Awesome »

Hey, howdy, how goes it? Haven't been on much this...year, fuck. Lotta moving around and adventuretimes and so forth. Living in Honolulu now, and I've got a question: Where the shit are my tiki bars? I thought those would at least exist here, arcades seem unaffected by the passage of time due to japanese tourists, so why can't tiki bars still be hanging on? Does anybody have any leads? Hitting the pavement is time consuming and hasn't turned up anything.

the lack of tiki bars is, to my mind, the primary sign of the decline of western civilization. I regret that I was born too late to enjoy the Trader Vic/Don the Beachcomber era. Todays theme restaurants suck. And their drinks suck. And I am discontent. I must poke my eyeballs out with my little pink paper umbrrella toothpick so there.hah!

If tiki bars are what I think (pacific oriented drinking establishments), then coming to France is a solution for you: they are totally trendy here and a lot of citizens from our oversea departments and territories come to the main land to open one.

Coming to France/Europe is in fact a solution to all of your problems, despite what Mitt Romney might think.

You can try to set up your own tiki lounge at home.
On a related note, when did Pier One imports get so fucking expensive? Also, where's all the bamboo shit?

I always suspected that.

Hell, you're living in a Tiki Bar; take some rum and mixer to the beach!

The charm of Trader Vic's in Chicago was that it was a place to go on a cold and windy night and be able to pretend that you were not in Chicago but a warm sunny place. With and exotic expensive drink in a fake coconut.

You may take some shit from some of the young native types about the Tiki decor out there though, white-eyes.

I miss Don Ho.

But, but... I like it in Chicago. The architecture, all this jazz and the classy restaurants plus the super heavy pizzas at night. Chicago is totally my kind.

No joke, this is something I've been seriously considering lately. Not a tiki bar, because I'm not sure how well that would go with the locals (especially owned by a haole), but the longer I live here, the less I want to leave. I'm 50/50 on just letting my enlistment run out and getting a business loan in a couple years. Still in the VERY early research stages though, an endeavor like this isn't gonna be a cake walk.

I usually spend all my time drinking Old Dusseldorfs down at the King Kamehameha Club with Rick and TC.
I'll miss you, pallie.

I've read about the Tikl bars of the olden days, with their waterfalls, palm trees, and exotic birds. And the music! Martin Denny, Les Baxter, Arthur Lyman. Oh look! Dinner too? Pu-pu platter. Oh yeah.
