Re: Bulleit Rye Whiskey.. WAIT, WHAT??
I got one of those wine aerators for free when I was working in the industry and I've used it enough to determine that it's probably bullshit. What do you think? What's worse is when they came out with the "white wine" version that was just colored white and swirled in the opposite direction in hopes of getting people to buy both.TheBigCasino wrote:The big dog, Sazerac Rye 18 year joins Bar Casino
Re: Bulleit Rye Whiskey.. WAIT, WHAT??
Oh yes, Sazarac 18 the greatest rye of them all, but, for the money the High West Rendezvous comes quite close.Badfellow wrote:One of my absolute favorites. Seek out the Thomas H. Handy if you don't have it already.TheBigCasino wrote:The big dog, Sazerac Rye 18 year joins Bar Casino

Re: Bulleit Rye Whiskey.. WAIT, WHAT??
My wife swears by it, but seriously, I can't tell the difference between Wine run through the aerator, and Wine that hasn't been. I should mail one to Boozy and get a real opinion.Chimneyfish wrote:I got one of those wine aerators for free when I was working in the industry and I've used it enough to determine that it's probably bullshit. Rye
I've been drinking more and more rye lately. It's a change from my usual bourbon. but I've yet to find a good "house" rye. For example, as much as I love my pricier bourbons (Bookers, Eagle Rare, Bulliet), my house bourbon is Evan Williams. I need a house rye. Suggestions? Something that bridges the price/quality gap.

Old Overholt it is. Go to the whiskey aisle and start looking near your feet. It should be around there. It's good eatin'.ThirstyDrunk wrote: Old Overholt is my go to rye.
Knob Creek rye is damn fine, but pricier.
Rye whiskey is so hip, right now, you need ill fitting clothes and plastic rim glasses just to drink it.

Re: Rye
The hipster thing is bugging me. I actually like rye because I like it, not because it's 'in'. Fucking hipsters. Old Overholt will be sought at my local store.frankennietzsche wrote:Old Overholt it is. Go to the whiskey aisle and start looking near your feet. It should be around there. Re: Rye
Rittenhouse (the regular stuff or the stronger Bottled in Bond 100 Proof) are fairly well known as one of the better bang-for-buck ryes. The 100 proof version can be a bit harsh for sipping, but it makes a fine Manhattan.
A few years ago when rye was still unpopular, I remember reading a Jim Beam guy say that they distilled their entire supply for the year in one day. That's how low demand used to be.

Re: Rye
Long time coming, but I finally got my first bottle of Old Overholt. While a little less potent than I though at just 80 proof, it tastes pretty damn good. For $10.99/bottle, I'm happy with this as my house rye, with the occassional bottle of Bulliet rye as a treat.

Re: Rye
OO, while not the best rye in the world is a good representative of the old school style ryes from the days before prohibition. In fact it may have been the only one to survive it.
