Wednesday I loaded a truck and trailer with basically half of my life and drove it all 3 hours north. Yes, I’m moving to the country after a solid decade of city dwelling and sucking up all that lovely, toxic urban byproduct. I’d like to say it was the George Floyd riots that finally soured me on Minneapolis, but in truth the feeling has been there for a while. It’s been said that the city is a force which imposes its own will and personality upon you. I tend to agree.

And so last night, I sat at a bar out in the country drinking whale sized pours of Johnnie Red on the rocks for $5. I witnessed a horny, old local farmer made to blush when a young woman he knew came up behind him and gave him a lingering hug. It was a better vibe and sense of social contentment than I would have found at any of the tired, old dives I tend to haunt in the city.

The only appeal the city seems to offer anymore is convenience. Now that I’m back in town until the end of the month, I’ll pour myself another drink and try to remember the sage advice of Buckaroo Banzai: "no matter where you go, there you are".
Why are you waiting until the end of the month to move? Are you selling your current residence?

Went out to the river trail and smoked a few Dunhills.

Then, guess what? My favorite liquor store is hiring! I picked up an application and just turned it in -- 3 pages, handwritten for chrissakes. Wish me luck.

I thought this practice had been abandoned, filling out paper job applications at the place you wanted to work. I was under the impression that it was all done online or with apps. A couple years back I saw a post from a friend of a Facebook friend complaining that the person behind the register at a McDonald's laughed at him when he asked for a job application. The Mcd's employee didn't know what he was talking about.

Yesterday was my second cataract surgery. All went well and I had my follow up today. Looks good. Now I can actually see without glasses. I'll know more as it heals. The right eye was 20/25 when it was done on it's one week check so if the other one does as well I shouldn't need glasses for a year or two. However I do nee readers for up close work. Gonna celebrate success on Friday with a special scotch.

Glad to hear things went smoothly. As part of of your therapy and speedy recovery, might I suggest the addition of some fine medicinal greens to your diet as well.

This morning I’m taking a voyage over to Cheeseland (aka Wisconsin) to resupply on the 190 grain spirits. Not sold in Minnesota for whatever ass-backward reason, 190 is the finest solvent a person can buy for use in making a tincture au cannabis. Efficient extraction of full spectrum cannabinoids without nasty chemicals is where it’s at, jack. Yet another wonderful use for alcohol.

A visit to Cheeseland is also a great excuse to stock up on New Glarus beer which is only sold within the incredibly cheddary borders of the state.

Resupply mission successful. On the cargo manifest: 10.5 liters 95% ethyl alcohol. I’d like you to take a moment and reflect upon the sheer blackout potential represented by these numbers.

Stopped into a mom n’ pops bar and grill in Hudson near the river where they serve breakfast all day long. Had a few pints of Spotted Cow ale with bacon, eggs, biscuits, fried curds and sausage gravy. It turned out to be the right decision.

That last line makes me wonder about doing a breakfast poutine with hash browns, cheese curds and sausage gravy over the whole mess. Maybe top it off with two poached eggs.
