So I may have got the job

Post by Malkor »

For those of you who read the last thread I posted regarding the job I went for today, the bastards as good as mine, just need to do a training course (4 days) to licence me as a doorman (you need the licence to work at events that have booze on the premesies) this is great because when business at the company is slow I can do some nights at bars as a bouncer as I will have the licence for it.
So basically i get to travel around events/festivals, work backstage and when times are slow I get to 86 arseholes from bars

Im looking to oggar for advice on this subject and also any tips anyone one with prior experience in this feild could give!

Congrats. Take some advice from the greatest movie ever made Road House
All you have to do is follow three simple rules. One, never underestimate your opponent. Expect the unexpected. Two, take it outside. Never start anything inside the bar unless it's absolutely necessary. And three, be nice.
I'll miss you, pallie.

Tact is your biggest asset, don't go steaming in, assess the situation first.
If you have to put someone out, do it quietly, he/she will appreciate it and you will have less trouble doing it.
beer, wine, voddie it don't get any better.

There was quite some trouble with doormen at Esquire's, our local litle gig venue, so here's what i can bring in terms of advice after the mass boycott and torrent of email towards the owners:

- If kids are 'moshing' to some emo/metal/whatever band, let them get on with it as lon as they aren't actually brawling. Kids of 15/16 used to regularly get chucked out for this at Esquire's, when they were just doing what angsty teens do.

Other advice:

- If someone is clearly drunk, but well behaved, just leave them to it. The bouncers at my locals are always very good to me in this respect, and i have no end of gratitude for it. The last thing you want whn you're drunk and on your way home (as you will well know) is someone having a go.

- Please don't be the guy that starts arguments with good patrons just because he wants some action. There's always one bouncewr like that, and everyon hates him for it. Be the one that finishes trouble, not goes looking for it.

Ad have fun doing it buddy, i hope you come to a town near me soon!
