Pouring the Franzia Chillable Red tonight.

This morning while whining in my diary about my lack of writing productivity over the last few weeks, I wrote that I can not have anything to drink unless I write 1000 words minimum by dinner time. I clocked in at damb near 1300. Nothing like a threat to take away your booze to put spurs in your flanks.

I’m getting a tad worried about you Hugh. Imposing all these rules upon yourself. I am glad to hear you using words like dinner time and red wine. I’m pretty sure, no Positive, that Biff can set up a reading on Skid Row. Man, it will be dynamite. All the bums have read A Home to Crouch In, but to hear it read aloud by the author himself with Biff’s super sound system, is going to bring the house down.

Now, you can’t read them all. So you will have to decide which ones to read. I will tell Biff that you are most comfortable sitting behind a desk to recite so he will come up with a black market desk, I think. He might not, so then you might have to stand at the (what is it called?) the diaz? and read. Drinks are allowed on both sides of the stage, no problem there. Another idea is using Ladybug on the pole way in the background but it might just be a distraction. That’s up to you of course. Then after the reading you will have to autograph some books. That can’t be helped I’m afraid, part of it.

I often employ a similar strategy, especially for prose. Will start writing before I start drinking and when I reach a minimum (usually around 1500-2000 words) and feel I'm in the groove, I start hitting the wine and usually am able to continue writing for a few more hours.

Started with a bigfoot barley wine, currently sipping a torpedo from Sierra Nevada. It's all cheapies after this. Sometimes I enjoy the fancy pants brews on the weekend. Cheers and happy Friday!

That’s a good strategy. Start big when you’ll be able to enjoy it the most. Then call in the tall boys to mop up any resistance that’s left. I often do this with whiskey. A few glasses of some high brow rye followed up by a deluge of Evan Williams.

I've said this several times on here and on the skype chat. The big, expensive spirits and beers are just the officers or recon troops in my war on undrunkenness. They survey the field of battle, say, the first 3 to 5 drinks. Then it's decided if we go to bed or go to war. Either way the expensive shit goes away and the Hamm's and Evan handle comes out. Those are the grunts in this war. The poor bastards that take the brunt of the damage.

Also drinking a New Trail Summer Chill Factor Cold IPA. 7% ABV Hops: Nectaron, Crystal, HBC 586 and Citra Malts: Pilsner and Munich

Fuck me this is good. Citrus and tropical fruits with out that cloying milkshake IPA bullshit or the licking a pinecone brutality of a West Coast IPA.
