Yet ANOTHER(!?) Bourbon Thread, BUT...

Post by peetie44 »

...I doubt anyone here will complain, since we seem to have so many people here knowledgeable (and drunk) on the subject.

So, how about everyone listing their...

1) Default, major-brand, any-bar-should-have-it, "Yeah, I'll have a shot" bourbon
2) Trying-to-stay-drunk-until-payday bourbon
3) Money-is-no-object, top-shelf bourbon

Mine are:

1) Jim Beam
2) Four Roses
3) Booker's (only had it once, must have more)

1) Wild Turkey (More and more local bars are granting me my wish)
2) Generic (Most local supermarkets will have their own bourbon)
3) Old Ezra (Only once, myself, but I know where to find it)

I'll agree with Beam as a standard, since it's usually in the well.

Gotta go with Ezra Brooks, it's affordable and 90 proof. And one of my favorite bourbons. Ten High is a worthy substitute if it's all that's available.

For top shelf, Bookers, or Old Rip Van Winkle Handmade is very good too. Either way, gotta be barrel proof.

1. Jim Beam
2. McCormick (any variety)
3. Wild Turkey

...Beam Rye is my favorite whiskey that I can actually afford on a semi-regular basis.

I have a half a Bottle of Booker's wayyyyy in the back of my Liqour cabinet. It is the rare ocasion that i bring that one out. I ain't made of enough "Booze coupons" to be putting that stuff down like I do with the Ezra.

Wingman, it was most likely Ridgemont Reserve 1792. A fine Bourbon. Rather creamy.

1. Depends on the bar. I'd prefer Maker's, I'll settle for Beam.

2. Evan Williams Black Label

3. Pappy Van Winkle 20 year old.

1. Wild Turkey
2. Ancient Age - My daily drink
3. Eagle Rare - I've had more expensive bourbons, but this is still the best I've ever found. I think I might go off and pour a dram now...

cheers

1. Beam (might say Four Roses as well but then the 'yeah, I'll have a shot part' doesn't work for me)
2. Maker's Mark
3. Buffalo trace (Thanks for the tip Ivan, tried it at your advice)
