I'm over a liter through a handle of vodka that I have been mixing with diet coke. As you can tell, I'm typing very well and right now I'm only feeling slightly tipsy. Given, I'm 6'5" and over 300 pounds but still... this is a lot of booze for me to be feeling so undrunk. I'm wondering if I should go on a month long hiatus (sp?) and see if I can't lower my tolerance. At the same time I don't remember my last night without a drink or 12. Hmm... Decisions decisions.

Though I'm no chemist, I speak from much experience with diet coke; I drink @ 1 liter a day of the stuff. Don't know what all chemicals are in it besides the caffeine, but it's definitely got a speedy thing going on, which might be slightly muting the alcohol's effect. Switch to mixing w/fruit juice and I'll bet you'll notice the vodka more.

I have days like that sometimes. Just the other week I started drinking SJ's at about half ten. Carried on through the afternoon, stopped drinking at lunch time for about an hour and a half, then carried on till midnight with newcastle brown ales. I'm nowhere near 6'5" or 300 pounds, and should have been hammered, but went home with barely a stagger. Maybe part of it depends on mood?

I stopped drinking this past week for 4 days and today on the start of my 5th day of undrunkenness I bought a 5th of some gin and started drinking a tad here and there before work , and I have to be in at 7:30 and I was feeling it after having close to a half pint...so I say take a minute off and start up again, you'll gain your whits and you will feel that nice warm monkey on your shoulder again...
oh and I'm only 5'10 and around 210lbs of monkey..

This is true. I went 3 days once and it felt like a month. Yuck!

Scrap the soda and bring another mixer into the fold. No sense in "dehydrating" yourself for 30 days to adjust your tolerance. That's just silly.

Yeah I usually can make it Sunday and Monday night without getting drunk, but by Tuesday night I want to hit the pints.

That's the downside to being a 'heavyweight' (high tolerance) - you have to spend more money and time in order to get a good buzz going. Welcome to the club.
I don't know if switching to a different mixer will help, but you can always try. May I suggest grapefruit juice? Vodka mixed with just a little bit of grapefruit used to be one of my favourite drinks - until it turned out I was allergic to grapefruit (no joke).
