DIY Juice to Alcohol Kit

Post by Emperor Awesome »

Just ordered one of these over the weekend, I hope it comes by saturday, and even then I have to wait the full 48 agonizing hours to taste test what seems too good to be true. I can't wait to make pruno the classy way.

"...packet of magic..." Yep. I'd say that just about sums it up.

And speaking of magic, I always thought that the miracle of transubstantiation would seem all the more real if we brought our own wine in flasks, and the priest blessed them, and then we drank in unison. Hey, and far fewer cold and flu germs transmitted, ya know? And if some of us chose to bring bourbon instead of wine, well, it's all fine in the eyes of the Lord. Ya know what I'm saying?

Probably tastes like pruno and comes packaged with a gigantic hangover.

I have something much better I'm willing to give away in the Christmas spirit. It's a packet of turbo yeast.

Process:

Dissolve 17 pounds of sugar in a 20 quart stock pot and simmer for one hour, stirring frequently. Cool by submerging the bottom of the pot in a sinkful of cold water. Change the cold water five times and stir the pot to rapidly reduce the temperature. When you can hold the inside of your forearm against the pot for ten seconds without discomfort, pour into a five gallon food grade container. Add turbo yeast. Give it a week. 14-17% alcohol by volume, five gallons of it.

Does that sound like something you want to drink?

No, and neither is the kit.

Sorry to be a buzzkill, but you don't want that.

I've found them to be reputable retailers. You should have no problems with their products performing as advertised. I have purchased thousands of dollars worth of equipment and supplies through them and have remained a satisfied customer.

Just buy some apple juice or something and throw a pack in there.

Bang, you have cider!
Also, something that ferments to a buzzable abv in 48 hours is liable to taste pretty foul. Slow fermentation is good fermentation. Well in most cases at least.
