Star Trek: Into Darkness (spoiler alert)

Post by Palinka (RIP) »

So, I am basically going to give the game away. Therefore I shall use white on white, meaning that anyone who wants to read the spoilers will actively have to highlight the text. Look away, if you don't want to know major plot points.

So, Section 31 (you know, the in house baddies from Deep Space 9) are getting a bit het up about those bloody Klingons and decide that, despite having just saved the Universe from future tech, Starfleet just aren't up to the job. Therefore, they go and find "The Botany Bay" and recruit the augments, under Khan (Benedict Cumberpatch), to do the dirty works. Suffice it to say, it all goes tits up; Captain Pike gets killed and there is a lot of running about and stuff exploding.
The end scene is more or less a straight lift from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan but the twist is that this time it's Kirk making the ultimate sacrifice. Except he doesn't because Dr McCoy has been fucking around with a phial of Khan's blood and a dead tribble. Long story short, the tribble comes back to life, and so does Kirk. Huzzah.
On the whole, cool movie. Could have used a few more ideas, though (and Leonard Nimoy's cameo is such a waste of time - he just turns up to say that Khan is a baddie, well...duh - that you have to hope that he is on a percent of the gross).
So there it is, in a nutshell. Still worth seeing, though. Just don't expect your mind to be too troubled.

Just watched it again (on the big screen, as opposed to a hooky download) and all that went through my mind, the entire film, was this...

Hanna-Barberra would like to sue but it's doubtful.
