Try a Charles Willeford novel. A Hoke Moseley detective novel. He wrote four. The first one is titled Miami Blues.Badfellow wrote: ↑Thu Jun 15, 2023 11:46 amStarted work at 6am today which is way too early for me. But on the bright side, I was done by noon and having a beer with lunch.
The plan is to water the garden, take a nap for an hour, then go get happy hour started proper at 3pm. Puffing a fatty J out on the patio out in the country with a bacon cheeseburger and a half liter of Long Island Iced Tea. Fuck, I might even read a book.

Willeford is the writer, Moseley is his character. You cannot beat it. Maybe a Ripley novel by Patricia Highsmith comes knocking, maybe.

My publisher sent me the final version of my novel before he releases it, which I thought was good news until he told me he did a few copyedits and I should look it over to make sure everything's okay. It's 276 pages and he didn't say what edits he made. I'll go through it until the beer goes to my head, but I ain't gonna spend the next two days reading this thing again just to find where he dug out my em dashes. (That's what all my editors do.)

In a nutshell: beer, rain, beer, fresh baked bread, beer, confronting growing mold problem in the basement, beer, accepting the fact that Monday is going to happen. And more beer.

Happy Independence Day 2023 to you Americans both domestic and abroad, and to those second class citizens of other weird and creepy countries all around the world (looking at you, Lithuania).
The surly, old broad Lady Libertytits is 249 years old today. She’s held up well despite the fact she looks worse than Madonna without makeup. But looks aren’t everything. Sometimes it takes guts too. And money. Lots and lots of money spent on booze and fireworks. Don’t worry, we’ll balance the budget later.

And in other nutshell notes: the garlic is ready.
KrishnaBot would be pleased. Pulled about 700 bulbs so far and I’m almost halfway through. Considering that garlic is $8.99/lb. at the local farmers market, those lovely stinkers should generate a little extra liquor moneys for the ol’ homestead.

Ugh,
Answering the phone 24/7 since one of my tennants was illegaly filming the other tennants through her flat`s door.
I put tape on the little doorspy and told that bitch to stop it.
Few hours later I get a phone call "the tape is glued to another tennant`s door with a nice emptied trashback sprinkled in front of it plus some snotty spit on it".
Good god, that lady belongs in a mental place but not my house...

Had a flat tire on the way into work this morning. Luckily, there are two tire places just down the road from where it got me.
Easy fix -- no need to jack the car up and put the spare on.

Lost most of the day to an extra shitty headache. Fresh air in the patio garden eventually fixed that.
Now it is time for records and beer. Cheers!

Re: Your day in a nutshell. Share please.
Friday- drove 3 hours down to the city and picked up the garage doors I’d be installing. Also picked up a bottle of Johnnie Walker Black at a reasonable price. Checked into a room. Reclined on a semi-swanky patio with said bottle and had a conversation with a guy from Texas about a genetically engineered bacteria his company is working on that eats micro-plastic. "What if it starts eating other stuff? Like dolphins or babies?" He didn’t much like the question.
Saturday- started at 8:30 AM sweating peat so I could get done and get the fuck out of Dodge. Finished by noon. Drove 3 hours/2 spliffs distance back to the homestead, thus a bit exhausted but nevertheless basking in a bacon cheeseburger and Long Island Iced Tea by 4:30 PM local time. Took the 5th Long Island to go. Foggy memories of conversation with a German and a Greek.
Sunday- ah, yes. The feeling for Sunday was one of a wine grape stomped and crushed beneath the bare heel of a particularly brutal French woman. It pains me never to learn my lesson, for it is in short order that the corpse shall rise once more to thirst from the dregs whence it came.
Monday- 2 for 1 margaritas start at 3 PM sharp.
