I am very nervous. The vet appointment is tomorrow at 3. The landlord made the appointment and told me in no uncertain terms that I couldn’t keep the dog (Chester, that is my dog) until he goes to the vet because he might infest Rooster with fleas and mange and ticks and other shit. Chester is a runaway that ran over this way last Saturday. He is (what looks to me) like a white toed pit bull puppy. Yesterday I gave him a steak bone. T-bone it was, I had eaten the filet part and I cut the strip part off to eat and gave Chester the bone. This was a big steak mind you, about 1.5 pounds, most of the meat being in the strip part. The filet part was outstanding, and I had to take a break before tackling what I could of the strip while Chester was in heaven with his bone. I stepped outside to smoke a cigarette. Came back in and Chester had that whole pound of New York strip from the big T-bone in his mouth. He can’t weigh more than (I don’t know) but he’s just a puppy. I let him eat it. I know better than to take meat away from a dog.

So I have to be undrunk at the vet’s tomorrow. The landlord will be there. He has a car. Usually by 3 I’m soused pretty good. So I’m trying to plan. Should I try to stay up all night tonight and sleep until it’s vet time?

Also I’ve decided that nobody is going to cut his balls off. Nobody is going to put a chip in his brain. Nobody is going to do any of that shit to him. Aahhhggh.

Good luck! It sounds nerve-wracking. I would definitely try to stay up late and sleep up until the vet appointment. Get every ounce of rest you can... you can get your drink on and celebrate with Chester afterwards once you get it out of the way. Less stress that way! Congrats on your new addition!

Thanks AD! Good plan but Chester thinks I should get off the couch at 7, so I only got three hours sleep. But we are both back home now certainly a little tired and droopy looking. It wasn’t a nightmare like I thought for sure it would be.

I can’t go into all the details because I don’t remember them. The vet’s joint was down by the river and across the railroad tracks. I was nervous as all shit riding in that truck the landlord drives. I kept pressing on the phantom break and yelling, “Look Out!”

But all’s well that ends well. I’m back here with my friends, the moderndrunkards, starting to catch my breath and cracking open another cold 16.

Now Chester is in the system. This is what I feared most. Oh boy, he’s got ring worms. All puppies have or had ring worms. It DOES NOT cost all this money to get rid of them. I don’t know why I am doing this. I Cannot Afford this. So, the vet visit was $550.00 dollars. And there is another vet visit in three weeks. Well, so be it I guess. The landlord is really cutting his own throat because I Am Going To Run Out of Money. Then I won’t be able to pay the rent. My dog will be in the system and the rackets and I won’t be able to pay the vet bills either.

But it doesn’t matter. If I have to pay one month’s rent to keep Chester then so the fuck what. Like I said, the landlord is taking money out of my pocket which is taking it out of his. This vet thing was his ultimatum to keep the dog. I’ve already got it planned. I pay the rent when I’ve got it and when I don’t got it, well, I don’t pay it. I believe that an eviction is ninety days before the police move in, or it might be just thirty days. Anyway, I’m thinking it’s going to cost the landlord way way more than a thousand bucks to clear this shit out of here and fix these fist holes in the walls. So in the meantime I’m sticking with the thousand dollar rent, and I won’t mention the vet bills.

It would have cost $39.95 at Walmart to clear up all of Chester’s supposed health problems.

The liquor store across the street where I used to get cheap domestic beer and sometimes cheap handles of whiskey has changed ownership. Now they have locked cabinets of wine. They changed the name to BUBBLES. and the sign underneath says CRAFT BEERS AND FINE WINE. My Miller in cans is gone. My Hamms is gone. Rolling Rock is gone, but maybe that's a good thing. This city is gentrifying like a motherfucker and I'm getting left behind. Goddamb I;m scared as fuck

And now there is a mural being painted on the wall where the bums used to piss, shit, puke, and sleep. Guess what it is?

At least they have Hamm's again now.

Watched the news this morning and there was a story about how booking for the winter travel season has already started. Really? One season not even ended and they’re already whoring out the next one. This should be in Shit We Hate. And if I see anyone with a spiced pumpkin latte, that dreck is getting slapped straight out of their hand.
