Way back in the late 90's, I was in this indie bookstore one of my friends ran, and on the mag racks had an early edition of Modern Drunkard. The retro art intrigued me (it was probably a year or two before retro art started to hit it big). I followed it online, and it was only a few years ago when I finally discovered the boards. I signed up, and here I am!

Yes, the retro art had a lot to do with it. I reminded me of my Dad and Uncle's men's mags that they left laying about. It was heavy WWII warrior mind and bold lusty stories...

I've spent most of my life trying to forget but one thing I won't forget is the day I signed up to MDM forums.

I can still remember the day I signed up - I had been reading MDM for a while and clicked a link to the forums and decided why the hell not and signed up. That day just felt so good for some reason, just sitting at home drinking and smoking. It wasn't anything special. I'm not sure why I remember that day but the taste of that dunhill cigarette still lingers in my memory. I remember the album I listened to that day and for some reason it never sounded better than that day.

Just curious.
I was in Lebanon (2007) and we didn't have the right to drink. Being on duty and shit.
What about you, what drove you to the Universal Pub?

Here's my diary entry from the day I signed up on Modern Drunkard:
Revising more poems. The more I look at them, the more I realize just how bad they are.

...I bought a 12-pack of Budweiser and settled in to revise poems, but after I got drunk I went to The Alibi. I talked a little too much, but nobody seemed annoyed at me. Still, I should talk less. IN fact, I shouldn't have been in a bar at all. Ever since I've been getting this additional time off from work, I've been craving bars. And since I've kind of given up on writing, I've given in.
All of the entries in my diary at that time are wailing and moaning over how I can't seem to resist bars. Maybe that's how I found this place - searching for an alternative.

I think I did an internet search on how to hide booze and I it led me to the drunkard board. I was a lurker for a long time before I joined. Also, IMDb had a forum I would regularly take part in and then due to trolls, they removed the chat boards. So that led me to contribute to the drunkard board instead. So happy I did! Met my drunkard husband and awesome new friends!
