Re: What were you doing when you joined the board?
I'm pretty sure I was unemployed at the time. While thinking of ways to distract myself from the never ending job search I remembered MDM and then recalled there was a board. Then I got hired but kept coming back here.

Re: What were you doing when you joined the board?
The Andre the Giant article brought me here. I was a member of several online boards and would regularly create threads espousing the greatness of drinking and linking to the MDM site.
One day, after all my old boards closed down, I came here and saw The Pub. Lurked for a few months then one day decided to post...apparently about Barleywine.

I was working on a book with a friend of mine at his awesome apartment in Austin, TX.
I would write about a page, call it a day, and then drink Scotch.
Reading the MDM articles throughout the drinking sessions was time well-spent. Eventually, I signed up for the board.

October of 2005. It was late afternoon in Fairbanks, cold as a witch's tit outside, and I was getting drunk at work on an overpriced bottle of Svedka. That and some terrible blue raspberry mixer the color of windshield washer fluid.
Stumbled onto the forum by complete random recommendation from someone else in the company who said "hey, you should check these guys out; they like to drink a lot".

In 2003, I was living on a very small island in WA state. I was drinking myself to death and would tell you so. This board was a beautiful thing for me, isolated as I was. Having been absent for many years, I thank you who kept it alive in my absence. I never died, so cheers!
need a woman be good to me... won't hide my whiskey try to serve me tea...

Feb, 2006 was my first post and join date but I'd been lurking for a year or so at that point. All the great humorist and wit kept me intimidated for a while.
What led me here was the usual. A combination of drinking and surfing the web. Perhaps the most dangerous thing one can do nowadays. SWI. Surfing While Intoxicated. I would google random shit like booze, drunks, drinking, and other such nonsense. Most of links were related to quitting our beloved booze or wanna be rat packer hipster fuck whistles who I generally pissed off quickly.
During one of these drunken forays into the belly of the Interweb Beast I stumbled on the magazine and website. Found the chatboard link and the rest is history.

I was drinking heavily in NYC and looking for drinking websites, I'm not sure what happened next but DJF was there, and there was a chat room and everything went sideways. Rowdy was there, it was a haze of Toni and Dr. P, Vegas happened, and then I was in California. Voila.

Re: What were you doing when you joined the board?
Resurrecting this thread for good reason. Please share in detail what brought you to post in the drunkard chat in a story format (less than 500 words) for possible submission to the upcoming 25th edition of MDM Magazine. I will find out in the meantime if they should be submitted directly to the editor email as well.
For those of us who have posted already, just elaborate more by telling a story more than a one liner "I was a lurker", if you have a good story to share that is.
Dear Booze and Hugh, (and anyone else who was on the Skype call with FKR), can you please elaborate if necessary, FKR's requests and anything further we need to know as you have the proper instructions and criteria. Cheers drunkards!

Re: What were you doing when you joined the board?
He seemed to imply that he wanted them submitted directly. It also just seemed like a possible idea, that he really isn't sure of it yet.
Re: What were you doing when you joined the board?
Anyone find out if we need to submit it or will he just pluck stuff from here? I may get tanked this weekend and touch mine up just a bit then submit it.
