I heard the best description of drinking a hard seltzer.

"It's like drinking TV static while someone screams the name of a fruit from 2 rooms away."

The only seltzer I've tried is White Claw's tangerine flavor. It was a freebie, boring and flat. And it would take a lot of them to get me drunk.

I'd rather just have a refreshing cocktail like a mojito or one of those summer concoctions AD posted -- something with a kick.

Did you know that even Pabst has a seltzer?
Don't worry. We're in no hurry.

Every fucking brewery has one now, even Montucky. What did my cooler space just double? Just started putting them on the floor in front of the cooler doors and telling ppl "you are gonna need a bag of ice with that after all, you like water"

From now on, I’m calling it tard seltzer.

Here’s a PVC morale patch parody of White Claw that is also of some humorous value… because it’s true.

remember Kristy making fun of me when she saw me drinking the ones I got for free.....I dunno if it was subconscious shame and a challenge to myself to build back some man points but I drank a lot of neat woods navy the next night. hahah

I saw Tedious and Gassy at the Roxy back in 83.

The Mrs drinks them because they are light (low alcohol) and refreshing (soda water) and if she's mowing the lawn or doing dishes and that's all she wants, that's fine. I drink PBR doing yardwork on a hot day if I want to be able to drink 20 or 30 beers and still be able to operate a chainsaw.

If I cop some from her I will usually use them as a mixer...couple jiggers of tequila plus the grapefruit ones is a nice refreshing, unsweet, paloma stand in, for example.

I tought that was a minimum. But then again my chainsaw is produced by "Toshiba" san, wich also probably doesn`t mean "kill as many as you can", and thusly the label 3000 doesn`t mean anything either anymore

Never had one, I have drank Limeratias (SP?) that were on sale at a gas station, but isn't a hard seltzer just club soda and vodka with a splash of lime?

*Hard seltzer costs a fraction of the price to produce compared to beer or wine. No time consuming fermentation is needed; you just buy your 190 alcohol wholesale and blend it in with whatever flavoring you want to add. The product is force carbonated in a tank under pressure and ready to go within 24 hours.
Then why do they cost more than beer?

Yeah, I can see that being decent.

Bingo. Marketing and popularity.

Which leads to the question: does marketing drive popularity? Or vice versa?

I would say that mostly, but not always, marketing drives popularity, before hard seltzers existed, you could just splash some vodka into a solo cup, add some club soda and a fruit slice.

And that`s my drink of choice. I just mix it much stronger

As a follow-up, there is a whole school of thought that spendy products are always the highest quality products or the best products.

Look at Chivas or Crown Royal: neither should ever be thought of as an exemplar of its kind, there are better offings in their price ranges, I would never pay that for middling lackluster booze and yet...people do. They rave about the shit! "Oh special limited edition bottle in a fucking TIN?!? Take. My. Money. Now."
