That may be so, but try to pull it off in an office job. Your current environment makes it a cake walk. I tried and apparently failed miserably, but my boss was a good sport about it.

I'm jealous. Sadly, I work in a occupation where boozing is completely out of the question....luckily, I work with sensible folks and after-work boozing is damn near mandatory.

I'm not supposed to drink at work
however the level of cheeriness we are supposed to have makes us seem drunk anyway so as long as I'm careful its all good.

Re: I get drunk at work
There's a difference between "drunk at work" and "good buzz on at work so I can deal with insane people." I've done both honestly. Never been busted, fortunately. Years ago I got wasted at a restaurant job after I'd been there a few weeks, and one of the senior kitchen staff said, "He won't last," and then I worked there for five years and ended up managing the joint. I don't know whether that's good or bad, but I proved him wrong at least.

Drinking at work
So I'm at work, which is sales, and i'm walking around my town, and spot a new wine-tasting room that just opened. we have several products that do well in wine-tasting rooms, so this is a doubly good thing for me. so i go in, introduce myself, etc., and the owner and i are talking about one of our products, a chocolate cookie, that would go well with a red, and he says, "you probably can't sample now, can you?"
at first i didn't understand what he meant. i started to say, "no, i don't have any chocolate cookies with me, but i can bring you some." then i realized he thought because i was at work, i couldn't have a TASTE of wine.
this guy makes and sells wine for a living! when did this happen? is this normal? i mean, it was in the course of my duties to determine if the wine and cookie would go well together! (had to have 2 tastes, though, just to make sure.) what's wrong with people?
thanks for listening.

Re: Drinking at work
I'm by no means a "chocoholic", in fact, I've never tried chocohol, but chocolate and bourbon go swell together.

fudge brownies and pinot noir go well together, too, it turns out. i often crave dark chocolate about an hour after i stop drinking. turns out there are flavanoids in it, which are good for the liver.

I'd be lying if I said I'd never drank hot chocolate and (100 proof) peppermint schnapps.

I always drink on the job. Otherwise, work has no meaning. Or life. Or both.

Re: I get drunk at work
A couple months ago I had a real meatgrinder of a morning, shit was coming at me from all sides, but I was able to sneak out for lunch. I live nearby my office, so at home after lunch I made myself a nice strong martini, sat down calmly for about 10 minutes, and drank it. I went back to work on top of the world. I couldn't believe how much it helped. I haven't done it since because I can see how it *could* become a bad habit, but every once in awhile, I say we all need to let our our inner MAD MEN and drink during work hours.
