Where the Liquor Grows

Post by Badfellow »

Driving on a wave of early autumnal euphoria today, I looked out upon the rolling hills of the hinterlands in all their golden glory as a knell toward a winter coming. "There", said I to myself. "Take up a bushel of yonder #2 feed corn in the palm of your hand. Sprout it such with a breath of fresh wind. Let it ferment by the laws of yeast. Distill it to its purest form. Then drink it, and more importantly sell it."

That last bit could be interpreted as corn whiskey, corn vodka, corniness and/or Children of the Corn Liquor. However you decide.

Soy whiskey just doesn't sound thirst inducing to me.

Where the liquor grows the wise man goes.
Don't worry. We're in no hurry.

Sugar beets.

The land between hitherto and the North Dakota frontier are redolent with sugar beets. Piles and piles. Free for the taking.

Of course, by themselves, these sugar beets taste worse than the ass-end of a dead mule pulling a shitwagon out of Hoboken, New Jersey. But refined into something resembling molasses, these sugar beets produce 1 liter of highly fermentable syrup per 15 lbs. And unlike potatoes, which are also free for the taking, sugar beets require no mash to convert the starches into ferment-a-billy sugars.

But they do stink like farts while being boiled and processed.

Fermentable, not flammable. The only thing under attack here is your toilet.
