I do find it interesting that this debate was mostly regarding what teachers should teach in public schools. Nobody even questions that the government was never intended to have a monopoly (or very close to one) on raising kids.

Yep, the hierarchy of government screws things up once again. My mom has been teaching for 25 years and she always butts heads with the higher-ups because they have their own ideas of what should and does go on in the classroom.
