i hope everyone's hearts and prayers are with the congresswoman and the families of those who were murdered by a mad man. Serriously, who the fuck could shoot a nine year old girl, i mean, shooting the others was bad enough, but the kid? damn, i thought midwest winters were cold. mentally ill or not, i hope that give this fucker the chair.

It's interesting to me how many people hate politicians until something like this happens. People die every day, why is it more important just because this person was in the limelight and made more money than she should?

IMO, the real story in this whole thing is right here, why aren't these people in the limelight? Some dude was at a nearby store, heard gunfire, and ran TOWARDS it to subdue the guy? Amazing.

"Dupnik lauded Patricia Maisch, who was waiting in line with her husband to get a photo with Giffords when the shooting started. Dupnik said that after the gunman had fired the first clip of 31 bullets, Maisch ran up to the suspect and grabbed a full magazine as he was loading it into the gun. The shooter was able to reload, but the gun did not immediately fire due to a malfunctioning spring, Dupnik said.

Roger Sulzgeber, who was also in line, and Joseph Zimudie, who was at a nearby Walgreens and heard the shooting, then subdued the gunman, Dupnik said."

politician or not, this would still have been a big story. maybe not to the degree it has taken, but a crazy guy goes on a shooting spree with several killed and many more wounded is a big story. You're right though, the stories of normal people doing normal things that are thrust into an insane situation and handle themselves with courage and heroism is the true story that is being overlooked. The fact that politics was thrust into it is just disgusting, especially after the facts are known that this guy had no political persuasions and didn't watch the news or listen to radio, he was just a fucking nut case. That society places people of fame or importance at the head of the line is unfortunate for the other people who are murdered every day, but the fact that they were famous makes more people take notice than otherwise would have. Just look at the death of Michael Jackson.
