European membership referendum

Post by Mr. Viking »

As I'm sure most of you already know, the UK is holding a referendum over it's EU membership, the vote is on the 23rd of June, the same day I leave for the drunkard trip to Berlin. I also have a trip to the netherlands booked end of July. The polls are showing vote leave ahead by quite a margin. I'm quite concerned

If it makes you feel better, the betting market still favors Remain quite solidly. I hear that has a record of being a better predictor of political outcomes than polling.

Nice to see our Dear Leader FKR promoting typical North American naivety on social media this morning.
Brexit batters Britain's booze industry and it will increase the cost of our liquor.
Though obviously sitting sloshed in Denver he knows better than I.
Major Strasser: What is your nationality?
Rick: I'm a drunkard.
Captain Renault: That makes Rick a citizen of the world.

I eat my words and stand corrected. Ummmm... congratulations?

That in itself is an ignorant thing to say. But I suppose you'd care to elaborate?

Here's a chart of Google search frequency from the UK:

Additionally, the search phrase 'What is the EU?' was trending on Google in the UK on the day of the vote.

Sounds like the guy sitting sloshed in Denver might not be your biggest problem.

So I guess no one finds this to be particularly naive.

Oh and by the way it's 'Huzzah'.

And Mr Chimney Fish: Those two questions you looked at are suitable subject areas for academic study.
Major Strasser: What is your nationality?
Rick: I'm a drunkard.
Captain Renault: That makes Rick a citizen of the world.

FKR never said anything about costs of booze. He was referring to the EU's nanny state tendency to do what's best for you. So they hinder your ability to enjoy adult beverages in any manner you see fit.

Shit happens here in the States all the time. Pennsylvania is in the Dark Ages with some of the worst Draconian blue laws on the books. Plus liquor is only sold in state run liquor stores. If prohibition taught this shitty state anything it's that having a monopoly on all the booze in the state is profitable as hell.

Not sure how the European Union could be considered a Nanny State. You'll find that most of our excessive regulation or punitive "sin taxes" come from HM Government. To refer to Eurocrats as fascists is a gross failure to understand what fascism actually is. Last time I checked none of my fellow countrymen were lined up and shot for their Brexit vote.

Though immigrants have been attacked and told to go back to their own country as a result.

Point taken. Having never lived or even visited there I was just piecing together bitching from those that did, perhaps they were misguided.
