Palinka RIP Jan 2016
Just put it here...
Proverbs 31:6&7
"Pain is sometimes the price of laughter."-Oggar
CPE1704TKS
"The object of life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape finding oneself in the ranks of the insane"-Marcus Aurelius
And afterwords we can run amok! Or if you're too tired, we can walk amok.

Re: Palinka RIP Jan 2016
I only got a chance to skype with him once or twice, but it was a blast. I remember kind of clinking my glass when I'd get to the bottom of some gin and immediately hear "Looks like somebody needs another one, aye?". I'd never had somebody do that when skyping before, or in any voicechat with friends. Palinka was my first with MDM. He was always a real sharp character, and could talk for days in the few skype sessions we had. I think I'll be picking up scotch in his honor tonight. Here's to you, wherever you are, chief.

What to say? He was a good friend to me, as he was to so many of us. I've been missing you for months and now I'll miss you forever. I've just opened the twee little bottle of palinka I've been saving for...I don't know what, and raising my glass.

To a man who reached out and showed me absolutely unconditional kindness that no one would ever know about, and had a vicious sense of humor to boot...
Thank you.
And cheers.

I feel like a shit for falling out of touch for so many people on this board, Palinka included. We used to be like family, and to me he was like a cool, wise older brother. Or maybe a cool, wise uncle? I was very young back then.
Palinka was there when I got engaged to my now-husband back at MDMCon 2004. In fact, I believe he was instrumental in setting up the whole celebration. I just tried to find pictures from that time at the Double Down and can't find any, and for some reason that made me want to cry more than anything else.
He was an amazing man, an amazing friend. I wish I could have told him that I still consider him a friend, even though we haven't talked in years, minus some tiny bits of communication. My husband and I still talk about him sometimes, because some of the most fun times of our lives were at MDMCons, and 99% of them involved his presence.
I know that some of you on here knew him better more recently. I don't know if he changed. If he was different. But the only memories I'll have of him are back in the day. They are good memories. I'm glad that there are still some people on this board who share those memories, too.

To Palinka, he was one of the very good ones. It will be quiet without him

Re: Palinka RIP Jan 2016
I got a call from Casino the other night letting me know that the end is imminent. I was a little surprised because I thought the tough son of bitch would really pull through. Through our fights and dumb arguments he always conducted himself with class and brutal wit which would infuriate me because it forced me to respect him. At the end of the day the internet stuff is bullshit and this is about real life. I was lucky enough to share a few drinks with him back at Vegas 2. I hope his soul is at peace. My thoughts go out to his family and friends. Lifting a few in his memory tonight.
I'll miss you, pallie.

I drank with him. Now I drink to him. As when other distinguished lights here have departed, I can say little of value. I bought Palinka a drink once, and he reminded me of his gratitude for that small gesture many times over, which seemed as undeserved as was the gracious way he extended himself to me over many Skype calls and threads here.

Rest In Peace, Palinka...a fine drunkard. He used to drunk-dial when I was in Belgium and was always entertaining.
Cheers, mate!

I found this on my computer this morning. I wrote it last night while I was drunk. I know I intended to write more. I would, but I feel like whatever I felt during writing it is different than I feel right now. It's a very poignant sentiment to me so I figured I would share it rather than delete it. Here it is.
Hey, you can't be mad at me for being sad at the death of a friend I haven't talked to for ten years. His death, as I read about it, is awful. I feel awful that I only heard about it just now. But I want to tell you some things.
You sat with me all night at the casino bar when I felt abandoned. Or lonely. I don't really remember, I just remember the feeling. You were so honest with myself and yourself that I will always remember that moment. You in the kilt, me sitting casual, discussing life and the obstacles it presented.

If I were to play this at my house my wife will cry. Padraig used to play it on the computer when he stayed at our home those years ago, "Lori, Lori, Lori, listen to THIS!"
I don't know why he loved it so much:

At least he's gone to better place, where it's never closing time, the bartender never underpours, and until we come up to join him, he's go plenty of interesting new drinking buddies. Here's a toast to you, Palinka.
May you all be hung, drawn and quartered!
