It seems that we've lost a longtime board member, and rock 'n' roll has lost a damn fine piano player.
News was confirmed by Dave Alvin. This is fucking rotten news. Always loved peetie's input on here. Fittingly, I'm drinking Duvel right now. May have to empty the fridge tonight, but this one's for you, Gene...

This sucks. Had a Caol Ila toast with Oett last night. Peetie always liked the Islays.

Re: Peetie...
Alright, let's start it out.
Who's going to give me a story?
I may not have known the man, but he sounds to have been both a gentleman and a scholar
For the uninitiated and ignorant
who was this great drinker, Peetie?

Re: Peetie...
He was a brilliant piano player who played with Canned Heat, The Blasters and the Doug Sahm Band as well as some others.
He split his time between Texas and Belgium. He's poste picture of him getting "paid" for a gig with Wesvleteren Trappist beers. Very sought after as you can only get them at the monastery.
He could play. When I get home I'll post some youtube stuff from him.

Re: Peetie...
I remember Gene used to try and educate us imbeciles of the old timey blues guitarists and music makers by consistently dropping old rare music vids. I always enjoyed that.
His MDM board namesake - Peetie Wheatstraw.
Also he was one of the very few board members who thought I was funny, and no matter how bad and offensive my shit/drunk posts were back in the day Peetie would always give me an "Atta boy Thirsty". I don't know if I ever told him how much I appreciated that.

Spot on, laddie. gene was a knowledgeable soul, and what he shared with us was important. We'll toast him aplenty.ThirstyDrunk wrote: ↑Wed Feb 24, 2021 6:46 pmI remember Gene used to try and educate us imbeciles of the old timey blues guitarists and music makers by consistently dropping old rare music vids.
