Heard the news the other night, but was too preoccupied with work shit to contemplate it all. Now having a few drinks at home from a long week at the store, I can let it sink in. The wise Dr. was a great influence to me long before I met him through this chat board which he helped create. I soaked up his vast knowledge of British comedy, European drink, and general wisdom of the world. The first con was such a mind-blowing experience of finally putting faces to the characters here that I was overwhelmed. I don't even remember eating til the 3rd day. I over-indulged. Sorry for running away into the casino as you so politely tried to escort me out. Sorry for spilling the beans to the future-ex that you were in the country before con 3. Like so many in my life, I got off on the wrong foot with you. Never got to have a drink with you on the other side of the pond, but I will never forget your friendship.

See you on the other side.

It's sad he passed away. Not simply passed out. I will miss his never ending insight into every topic imaginable. Random grumpy raving about showing certain degree of class while drunk out of your mind. Hope his out there with Bacchus, drinking and riding unicorns. Maybe even crossing streams with Hemingway. I'm no good with saying goodbyes, so i'd rather celebrate man's life than mourn his death.

That's exactly what he'd ask.
He's going to have a humanist funeral, which will be a blast, if the rumours are true.

We have lost far too many of us, but this one has definitely hit me the hardest. Padraig was a great friend and an excellent drinking companion. He was a kind and generous person and a fellow of infinite jest. He will be greatly missed. Cheers, friend.

I recall Padraig making Oggar and I sing this with him at karaoke at least twice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQJFWhn1R_w
"You people terrify me. You're like some sort of Unholy Trinity of drunken viking maniacs." - Nil

"You know, I'm surprised that someone who looks like the aging love child of Big Bird and Snuffaluffagus would bring physical appearance into this." - Oggar

It dulls pain, makes the sun shine brighter, and makes boring people more interesting.

Only joined recently and was only able to interact with Palinka a few times on the boards. Never made it to a Skype session with the man, and for that I will always see it a a missed opportunity. Missed he will be, but there is an open bar where he has gone. Here's to hoping I'm good enough to share a drink with him when I go on. Slainte

Palinka will be missed. He was truly a force on the Boards and I will sorely miss the Saturday Skypes. I always knew it was gonna be a good day when the Skype would light up around noon my time. Palinka would be well on his way to his happy place and next thing I would know I would be blitzed and lost three hours of my afternoon. I would give most anything for one more of those lost afternoons.

This Ten High is for you Palinka. Bacchus care for you and keep you loaded.

Boy, this is sad news. Grateful for the few drunken Skype calls we had, and sorry that I never managed to meet the man. Tonight I drink to Palinka.

Never knew him but still very sad news. I have enjoyed reading all your stories and memories about the chap. Some of the pictures on that facebook page are simply class. It all reminds me of something Cicero once wrote that the life of the dead is placed in the memory of the living. I'll do my bit and pour myself a drink in dedication to him!

Rick: I'm a drunkard.
Captain Renault: That makes Rick a citizen of the world.

I just discovered this thread and don't even know what to say. Like many of you, I guess I also thought that he'd pull through. I never had the opportunity to skype with him. But right after I joined the boards, he sent me a few very special PMs that served as encouragement in writing and contributing to MDM. Since then, I always looked forward to getting little messages from him. He was always a gentleman, always had a great sense of humor, and never failed to impress me with his generosity and grounded respect for this forum.

By me, he will be truly missed.
