Booze Traveller - TV show

Post by maltlicker »

I'm enjoying this US cable tv series.

http://www.travelchannel.com/tv-shows/b ... t-the-show#!

The host, Jack Maxwell, is from Boston and he's doing a fine job visiting 15 countries

So far I've seen Turkey, Peru, Spain, Austria, and Iceland.

I saw the Austria episode, and gazed longingly.
"Sometimes you climb out of bed in the morning and you think, I’m not going to make it, but you laugh inside — remembering all the times you’ve felt that way."
-Charles Bukowski

I was probably drunk when I said that, but I meant it.

The second best thing about a shot of Malört is the face the bartender makes when you order it.

I'm digging this show as well. Great way to get to really know a country is explore it's drinking culture. Seen Lituania, Trukey, Nepal, Iceland and Japan.

I find the host to be a bit of an ass clown. He doesn't seem to have any interest in culture. Has only a mild interest in drinking and doesn't really have a point of view from which to speak.
He's not really funny, he doesn't'the really do the Anthony Bourdain snark, he's not a flaming alcoholic, he doesn't really seem to be interested in food.
It's a half assed host making a half assed show.

The Thirsty Traveler was a much better iteration of this concept..

Agreed. Guy knows knows how to infiltrate the drunkard community and procreate.

He had an audience too, so he struck a nerve. Friggin Drys must have gotten ahold of OCmedy Central balls somehow

How do I get that job?

Any one remember that Zane Lamprey or whatever's shows? I kinda like the one where he had that bearded sidekick. Never spoke much just got to leech along for the free booze and trips all over the world. I need THAT gig.

Drinking made easy, Steve McKenna. And or three sheets, where Steve made the occasional episode. Also he got some new show in the works iirc.

I enjoyed Booze Traveller. The episodes where he went to Japan and Armenia were particularly good. I want his job.

Still like this show three seasons in. The trip to Siberia was really good.

Also on a side note trying to enjoy Best Bars in America but can't. The occasional appearance of Wondrich aside, they just don't make me feel like partying with them. I'd rather drink with Jack.

I saw Dave Attell on Conan and they asked him about it. He said that after the first season, the fans on the street were such knuckleheads that they were having trouble filming: all of the bystanders being disruptive and acting like it was a camcorder at a frat party. People were just focusing on the drinking and bar scenes, when that was just one aspect of the show.

Anyway, I like Booze Traveller. I saw the one on Miami and Key West and it made me want to go to there.

Appears that it deserves another chance of viewing form this here bastard. So; advice form you is requested, ole chap:

Drink less before viewing, drink when he does, and begin with lowered expectations?

Or, drink much more, and raise the bar prices for meself?
