Re: Old drink commercials
Interestingly, until recently, there were no broadcast advertisements for liquor, in the United States. I have heard that this was a "self-imposed" prohibition on the advertisements. I am not really sure what that means, but it was only in the past 20 years (edited: I originally thought it was 10+ years), or so, that spirits manufacturers have had commercials. There have always been beer commercials. There have been wine commercials since at least Orson Wells selling no wine before its time.
I found this: CHRONOLOGY OF BROADCAST LIQUOR ADVERTISING but it apparently comes from a very scary source.

Re: Old drink commercials
maybe it was just because spirits were never as big a market as beer. Their popularity has risen hugely in the uk, as mixed drinks and cocktails have become popular, and the price has plummeted in real terms

You`ll see a guy unconscious at the sight of the stork delivering three babies, with a lady rushing over with a beer. Underneath it reads: "First aid, a Warsteiner!"

Re: Old drink commercials
This isn't a "drink" commercial in the way this thread is meant but I had no where else to put it.
I just saw a commercial that said all Trump style "MAKE AMERICA (UNDRUNK) AGAIN TM" Umm...what?
"If you or someone you know is struggling with a drug or alcohol addiction, make the next minute of your life count". Who doesn't want to make America great and undrunk again?!
I think that was convincing enough for me. I shall call the number right away! And join the Anti-Saloon League while I'm at it. Peace out ya drunkards!
