Old time radio shows that influenced a generation

Post by Lush City »

So here's a prime example of early radio affecting the outcome of future generations.
This is my reason for never getting married, but don't piss yourself laughing so hard.

I was first introduced to the concept of Old Time Radio owing to the October 11, 1986 episode of The Muppet Babies titled "The Muppet Broadcasting Company." I've been an off-and-on avid enthusiast since then, from my failed attempt to start an Old Time Radio Show club in middle school (I HAVE TAPES!) and I still listen to my local NPR rebroadcasting various shows on Sunday nights from eight to ten PM.
I assume then you're also aware of The Thrilling Adventure Hour, and more importantly: Beyond Belief on the Thrilling Adventure Hour.
"Sometimes you climb out of bed in the morning and you think, I’m not going to make it, but you laugh inside — remembering all the times you’ve felt that way."
-Charles Bukowski

I was probably drunk when I said that, but I meant it.

The second best thing about a shot of Malört is the face the bartender makes when you order it.

That looks like modern time radio to me. Guess I missed it. Nonetheless it was probably in the same tradition as Dick Tracy, Green Hornet and The Shadow.

There was an old-timey radio station playing shows from before television for the rich folks down east on the coast of Maine.
I was a frozen-food delivery dude to homes in Castine. (Their money was covered in cob webs and dust, and you'd have to pry the cash from their trigger-knuckles)

The Shadow. That was mighty fine. Replete with all the sound effects.

I'd play that on the radio late at night on the road back to Bangor with an empty big truck: Split shift transmission. Kept me awake.

Quiet Please was a good one. Tales of the supernatural and what not.
Don't worry. We're in no hurry.

The public library has CD's with Inner Sanctum and Dragnet.

Fun times.
