Drinking Music

Post by Frankennietzsche »

My favorite, all around, happy or sad: The Pogues. Esp "If I Should Fall From the Grace of God." Or perhaps their earlier "Rum,Sodomy and the Lash" (import/english ed. if you can find it.)
Single favorite song (to hear while drinking in a bar): Shane McGowan & the Popes ''Nancy Whiskey."

I'm not sure, but there may be a federal law requiring a person to be drunk on bourbon while listening to Shelby Lynne. She will break your freakin' heart, especially her first commercial success, "I am Shelby Lynne".
I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me.

Shane MacGowan (or how ever the hell you spell it) should be my avatar, but I'm a computer know-nothing.

also love social distortion and johnny cash

if I'm feeling optimistic, the clash

Oh, and the CRAMPS if I"m with a lady!!!!!!

if its durring the day, durring the summer, and yr drinking whiskey, you cannot possibly do better than Robert Johnson. You will see god when you close your eyes.
Or if your in one of those "i just got dumped and im drinking because im so sad" moods, go for Jeff Buckley, preferably the "Live at Sin-e" album. Pure genius.

DOUGH... the stuff that buys me beer
RAY..... the guy that sells me beer
ME...... the one who drinks the beer
FAR..... a long run to get beer
SO...... I'll have another beer
LA...... I'll have another beer
TEA..... no thanks, I'm drinking beer
That will bring us back to DOH!

And of course, from the archives:

Personally I'll go with Tom Waits.

Country music is always great drinking music.

Try Robert Earl Keen "Corpus Christi Bay"

We got stoned along the seawall
We got drunk and rolled the car
We knew the girls at every dancehall
Had a tab at every bar

If I could live my live all over
It wouldn't matter anyway
Cuz I never could stay undrunk
In the Corpus Christi Bay

Tom Waits is th ebest by far but he's been mentioned a bunch already so here's some others:

"Are you Drinking with me Jesus?" Mojo Nixon
"Napa Valley" Waco Brothers
Savage: "Unkle Lemmy looks just like his avatar, and that is hawt. Also, he sends me a crate of bourbon every month and for this, when I die, he will inherit my castle in Savagonia, and my 72 virgins. (They are all good boys, and very hard workers.)"

Celebration

Post by dougmogo »

I gotta go in a different direction here. For me alcohol isn't something to crawl into when I'm depressed, but a celebratory gesture.

For that, I like good old 80s hard rock. ACDC, Van Halen, Poison, etc...

Elvis is still the king and a viable option as well.
