best lyrics?

Post by Rupture »

my personal favorite, as sung by Merle Haggard...

I'm praying for rain in California
So the grapes can grow and they can make more wine
And I'm a sittin' at a honky'n in Chicago
With a broken heart and a woman on my mind
I match the man behind a bar for the jukebox
And the music takes me back to Tennessee
When they ask who's the fool in the corner cryin'
I say a little ole wine drinker me
I came here last week from down in Nashville
Cause my baby left for Florida on a train
And I thought I'd get a job and just forget her
But in Chicago a broken heart is still the same
I match the man behind a bar...
Yeah I say a little ole wine drinker me...

I've got tears in my ears
From lying on my back
In my bed
While I cry over you

(because it's real. everyone has been there.)
like tears in rain

I've faced the fathoms in your deep
Withstood the suitors quiet siege
Pulled down the heavens just to please you
Appease you
The wind blows and I know

I can't go on, digging roses from you grave
To linger on, beyond the beyond
Where the willows weep
And whirlpools sleep, you'll find me
The coarse tide reflects sky

all I really want is girls
And in the morning it's girls
Cause in the evening it's girls

I like the way that they walk
And it's chill to hear them talk
And I can always make them smile
From White Castle to the Nile

Back in the day
There was this girl around the way
She liked by home-piece M.C.A.
He said he would not give her play
I asked him, "Please?" - he said, "You may."
Her pants were tight and that's ok
If she would dance - I would D.J.
We took a walk down to the bay

I hope she'll say, "Hey me and you should hit the hay!"
I asked her out - she said, "No way!"
So I broke North with no delay
I heard she moved real far away
That was two years ago this May
I seen her just the other day
Jockin' Mike D. to my dismay

Girls - to do the dishes
Girls - to clean up my room
Girls - to do the laundry
Girls - and in the bathroom
Girls - that's all I really want is girls
Two at a time - I want girls
With new wave hairdos - I want girls
I ought to whip out my - girls, girls, girls, girls, girls
Gambling is a disease, but it's the only one you can win a ton of money for having - Norm Macdonald

By the by, I am listening to the best music ever right now. No lyrics, though. It's Bill Monroe and his Bluegrass Boys. Dang. I love bluegrass. Damn. My neck is red.

Huh? Don't we ever sleep? I deserve a government grant for my pathological ways. Wanna hear about my dreams? It'll cost ya.

Bluegrass- real bluegrass- is incredibly wonderful music. It has the free flow of jazz, the technical side of classical, and the pathos of the Blues. If it's done properly, it sounds like someone coming down an old dirt road circa 1928.

Best lyrics? Too tough a call for me- although Rush's "Freewill" may come close.

Not my favorite song but I love the lyrics.

"Grace is Gone" by the Dave Mathews Band.
Neon shines through smoky eyes tonight
It's 2 A.M., I'm drunk again
It's heavy on my mind

I could never love again
So much as I love you
Where you end, where I begin
Is like a river going through

Take my heart, take my eyes
'Cause I'll need them no more
If never again they'll fall upon
The one I so adore

'Scuse me please, one more drink
Could you make it strong?
'Cause I don't need to think
She broke my heart
My Grace is Gone
One more drink and I'll move on

One drink to remember
Then another to forget
How could I ever dream to find
a love like you again
One drink to remember
And another to forget

'Scuse me please, one more drink
Could you make it strong?
'Cause I don't need to think
She broke my heart
My Grace is Gone
One more drink and I'll move on
One more drink and I'll be gone

You think a thing's impossible
Then the sun refused to shine
I woke with you beside me
Your cold hand lay in mine

'Scuse me please, one more drink
Could you make it strong?
'Cause I don't need to think
She broke my heart
My Grace is Gone
One more drink and I'll go

'Scuse me please, one more drink
Could you make it strong?
'Cause I don't need to think
She broke my heart
My Grace is Gone
Another drink and I'll move on
One more drink and I'll be gone
One more drink and my Grace is Gone
I'll miss you, pallie.
