Solid Cocktails

Post by Shonus Andronicus »

Bare with me here for a minute. This idea was given to me by a friend, who, at a party, mistook chex mix for cereal, poured it into a bowl, then purposely mistook vodka for milk. And ate it with his fingers as he went home.

Now, this inspired me. You know, every once in a while, you're trashed or getting there, and suddenly, you need a little bit of food, just to trick your body into thinking you're treating it right. Now, it would be best, for obvious reasons, if this food got you more fucked up. Dig?

So there are already examples of this...the Watermelon trick, the ol' pickle soaked in grain alcohol, et cetera. I'm thinking of expanding it in different directions, more savory directions, like say chunks of steak somehow infused with bourbon, or something. I'll take any suggestions, and continue this project. I want a meat cocktail, damnit. At any rate, I can't experiment further with this until I meet some people to buy me booze (I recently moved and suck at socializing). But it's always lingering in the back of my head.

Bourbon burgers! They are a hit, but be easy on the Bourbon. You can get quite lit even after cooking those fuckers.

Bear in mind, when you add heat to the process (ie. cooking) there will be volatilization of the precious booze molecules. Too long of a cooking time will leave you with undrunk vittles.
Quickly grilled Bourbon Burgers (man are those tasty, eh Boo?) retain a fair deal of Kentucky goodness. Try doing a Juicy Lucy with bourbon soaked meat.

Had an idea...
Bloody Mary Soup: Cold prep soup like a gespaccio. Add all ingredients to recipe, finish to taste with Vodka. Don't forget XXXX hot horseradish, Tobasco, black peppercorn, etc. Build with raw veggies.

Well, for starters, Guinness is the best possible marinade for beef. Not that it's enough to get you lit, but I thought I'd mention it. Something you may want to try as a marinade/flavouring is vodka and jalapeno peppers. Chop the peppers fine, and let them sit in a bowl of vodka overnight. You could marinate meat in it, or if you're going to make your own burgers, mix it with the meat.

I'm losing some faith in this project....beginning to think that the only cocktail-style viable solid cocktail drink is the grain alcohol pickle.

Vodka and jalapeno is an excellent marinade. I love to use it on a really cheap piece of pork or beef. You can't go wrong.

Stick a toothpick in a shrimp and drop it in your martini.

Whiskey and pocorn. My dad used it to get some chickens drunk when he was a kid. Apparently a hungover rooster doesn't crow.
