Here's a little somethin' somethin' to wet the whistle after dinner. Potent, well balanced and delicious, it combines the sweet richness of B&B with the nutty flavor and tannins of a nice but not too pricy dry sherry. I mixed this out of blind faith/desperation (some foul she-drunkard drank all the vodka, double goddamnit) and I'm happy I did.
The Nutty Drunkard
2 1/2 oz. Dom B & B Liqueur
1 oz. Solera Reserva Dry Amontillado Sherry
(I leave the lemon as optional garnish)
Simply pour to glass @ room temperature for fullest flavor. I you prefer, you may shake this very briefly and very gently over ice.
The Nutty Drunkard comes out to play...
Hazy arial reconnaissance of the drink site. We found no evidence of WMDs, but the hue is quite nice, don't you think?
The sherry (Lustau) is currently available in the US at Cost Plus World Market for under $15 per bottle. It's well suited for mixing, cooking or simply drinking on it's own.

Neither are available, you know, romantically...

Booze sounds pretty romantic to me.

It would indeed. Yummy stuff. For a real adventure: try straight B&B heated up to about 2/3 tea temperature in a snifter. The heat brings out the beauty, sending sweetly volatilized alcohol and flavors straight up through your brain. It's heavenly. This also works equally well with Drambuie.

I picked up a bottle of Marsala wine last night. Maybe she and Sailor Jerry can play tonight during mystery cocktail hour. How's that for romantic? I'm increasingly finding these fortified wines an effective way to bump some additional flavor into a mixed drink without comprimising too much kick.
