Drink of the Week 07/19

Post by Barca »

Bacon is nature's wonderfood. Not only is it delicious enough to turn a vegan straight, but it can make any other food more spectacular. You can wrap lobster, jalapenos, pork chops, broccoli, almost anything in bacon and create a meal worthy of a Plantagenet king. Bacon makes everything better, except maybe jello, but, then again, maybe I just haven't thought the recipe all the way through. Pancetta, prosciutto, guanciale, in whatever form, bacon embiggens us all and gives life, and mealtime, meaning.

Likewise, Bitters are the bacon of the Liquor kingdom. Take an otherwise lackluster, everyday breakfast drink, sprinkle in some bitters, and you have a cocktail for the ages. Bitters add dignity and flavor to every drink they touch. For this week's DOTW, take your normal daily drink and add a dash of Bitters. Just don't be surprised if the world seems a little brighter, and your life is filled with just a little more joy.

Primary thought - Bitters is my next purchase. I fully intend to consume a DOTW very soon.

Secondary thought - Maybe you should try the Tartan Chicken. Chicken stuffed with Haggis, wrapped in Bacon.

Tertiary thought - go for lemon jelly (jello you godless heathen)

Is drinking Campari and Soda or Fernet Branca an acceptable substitute?

Though I've certainly have not been delinquent in my bacon intake since...oh...never, other than occasional night-cap Manhattans, I have to admit that I have been slacking off in the bitters department.

Tonight, though, I thoroughly enjoyed/am enjoying Beefeater™/Tonics with a couple dashes of dee-liscious Bitters. Good (and refreshing) call, Barca!!

If you had said "Caeser" I probably would have blown my load.

UGH! there it goes.

Bacon must come from some mythical and magical creature.

Spiced Rum and gingerale tastes so much better with a dash of bitters.

Prosciutto is ham, not bacon.

A dash of bitters is going into my G&T right now!

Bacon by any other name would still taste as sweet.

I'm perplexed as to what I should experiment with regarding bitters. I'm consuming scotch and bourbon lately, but straight.

I like bitters. And it's good for you too!

I recall the first time I met Mr. Bitters. I was severly hungover and at a bar where a friend was bartending.

He said drink some bitters and soda! It will settle your stomach, and it did!

I was able to then graduate to booze for the rest of the evening!

Best cure for hiccups:

One slice of lemon covered with sugar topped with Bitters.

Oldest bartending trick and so right on.
