Went to a friends house for dinner last night, and he pulled out a bottle of moonshine. Cut wth spring water down to 90 proof and made from rye; it had been aged three years in an oak cask. His father makes in as a hobby.
It was the smoothest most drinkable whiskey I've had in months. Granted, I haven't been drinking rye, but it was smoother then the Russels Reserve 101 or Van Winkle 12 yr I've got open right now.
I was blown away. I've had moonshine before, but it was never aged and was usually too hot to be really enjoyable.
I need to buy a still.
