Your top 10 best tasting drinks?

Post by Swede »

Last weekend I got a sudden urge to mix drinks, something I've never really done before.

Bought a bunch of assorted bottles and started looking through a drink book only to get very confused. There are a million and one drinks and I seemed to lack some ingredient to mix most of them so I ended up mainly doing Harvey Wallbangers.

So, please help me with your personal top 10 best tasting drinks. I don't want to look in the book all night, I want to drink nice drinks :)

Manhattan
Gin and Tonic
French 75 (made with cognac)
Singapore Sling
Negroni
Long Island
Cuba Libre
Greyhound (please make it with gin, dammit)
Bronx
Pernod (ice, sugar, water to taste)

Depending on my mood, that order might change, or I might throw a few others in to the mix.

Thanks.

I recall some website where you could input what ingredients you had at home and it showed out all drinks you could mix based on any combination of those ingredients.

It could add some standard ingredients that are no big deal to have around home like lemons, lime, orange juice etc.

Anyone know the website?

i think there was a link from the magazine at some point (maybe still) called the beverator or mixerator or something like that. it asked you how you were feeling and picked a recipe for you. sorry can't remember the name or find the link.

http://www.Drinksmixer.com should do the job...however, you can probably just google it for more sites.

Fun fact: If one of your creations goes wrong, just add a bunch of peppermint schnapps and give it to the next person you talk to. Works for me every time...

Fun fact II: One of my "discoveries": Simple, cheap and strong...Everclear, rootbeer, and a touch of triple sec...but it must be perfectly mixed...

Fun fact III: Fun facts are fun.

Sidecar, Manhattan, Pina Colada, Margarita, Gin & Tonic - in that order. Generally I just drink beer and straight liquor.

here are my current favorites, in no particular order:

Bourbon rocks with a splash of ginger ale
gin martini, slightly dirty with an olive and cocktail onion garnish
gin and soda(if you're picky about these things, use a good gin like hendrick's and substitute sparkling mineral water for the soda, garnish with lime)
Car crash (car bomb with no irish cream, just the whiskey)
Rasberry chocolate (beer mixture done black and tan-style with a rasberry flavored ale or lambic with a float of young's double chocolate stout over the top)
manhattan
gin and tonic
old overholt rye on the rocks with a bit (about 1/4 of the mixture) of some of that sweet-tea flavored vodka they've been selling recently
Death in the afternoon (absinthe with champagne poured in until the mixture clouds, a creation by "papa" hemmingway)
and, of course, whatever you're buying. That should make everyone's list.
