I went to a friend's house who doesn't ever stock enough booze. Before the end of the night, we were forced to invent the French Hillbilly.... Brandy & Mountain Dew. I think it was good (?)

Since you are aware of this ongoing problem, why don't you stash a couple of extra bottles in your overnight bag and, of course, carry the Modern Drunkardists' best friend, the hipflask*?Dear Booze wrote:I went to a friend's house who doesn't ever stock enough booze...
* And to get a truly "hip" hipflask, order one from the MDM store. To do so, just click here.
In fact, why not get one for your friend, too - as a subtle hint that he ought to be better prepared?

Re: This weekend's con-cock-shuns
Yes sir. It is an ongoing problem and perhaps I need a few extra bottles and a few extra hipflasks. The problem with Larry is that he's a cheapskate. You see, we started the day at the golf course at 7:30am. Which is to say, we started drinking at 7:30am.Palinka wrote:Since you are aware of this ongoing problem, why don't you stash a couple of extra bottles in your overnight bag and, of course, carry the Modern Drunkardists' best friend, the hipflask*?Dear Booze wrote:I went to a friend's house who doesn't ever stock enough booze...
I brought a thermos full of Irish coffee and a six pack of guinness in my golf bag. I also left a half bottle of Jameson in my car. Kahn also brought a six pack of guinness in his bag. We finished the coffee by hole 5 and the Guinness was gone by the end of 10. After that, we depended on the cart girl to come around often. After the round, our foursome spent too much time in the clubhouse.
Larry lives just up the hill from the course, so when the clubhouse closed at 7:00pm, we walked to his house. By 11:00pm, we were running out of options. And that was the birth of the French Hillbilly.
It is a known fact that this will happen at Larry's... I don't know why we never learn.
DRINK!

This week's concoction
I was at a tasting event this afternoon before my shift for Ancho Reyes chilli liqueur, and Montelobos mezcal. So of course we spoke about recipe uses for the range, and that led to me testing an idea as soon as I got into the bar
So here's the Heroica Daiquiri
1oz White rum
1oz Ancho reyes
1/5 of an ounce of maraschino
1oz lime juice
1/2 oz sugar syrup
Shake with ice and serve in a martini cup,or in a rocks tumbler over ice. Either way, garnish with a twist of lemon juice

Re: This week's concoction
The Daiquiri is one of the most underrated drinks in existence, and now in the current age there are almost limitless white rums from which to choose. Personal favorites include Prichards Crystal Rum, Neisson Rhum Agricole, New Orleans Crystal and, if you're feeling especially nuclear, Wray & Nephew Overproof White.
Remember: fresh squeezed lime, good simple syrup (1 part water to 1 part sugar) and plenty of ice.
You can also play around with the fruit garnish if you're feeling the muse. The strawberries, raspberries, mulberries and plums are all ripening nicely right about now.

Re: This week's concoction
I love playing around with classic recipes, and encourage my staff to do the same. Any one of a dozen small tweaks can change the drink completely, even something as small as the use of bitterss

I've got a 16 page archive file on my laptop with two menu's worth of drinks plus all the specials I've created since starting here last August. Some variations on themes, some competition entries, some just drinks I thought would be fucking tasty

Re: This week's concoction
A bastardized daiquiri for your consideration...
Coco Borracho
3 oz. White Rum
1 oz. Dark Plantation Rum
6 oz. Coconut Water
2 tbsp Demerara Sugar
1 tsp. Fresh Lime Juice
Shake liquor, sugar and coconut water vigorously with over ice. Pour into tall glass with lime juice. Garnish with lime wedge and pineapple spear. Serve with plenty of ice in a Collins glass or tumbler.
Here's another from the logs of mad science...
Bomba Atomica
2 oz. Wray & Nephew Overproof White Rum
1 oz. Fresh Lime Juice
1 tsp. Simple Syrup
1 tsp. Orgeat Syrup
Stir ingredients with ample ice. Strain and pour over fresh ice into an old fashioned type glass. A garnish of orange wedge and maraschino cherry would make it a small, potent punch of sorts.

Re: This week's concoction
This week I'm playing with a proto-tiki recipe,the Knickerbocker.
My version takes advantage of some rarely used stock to try and put a bit of a twist on the drink
1oz white rum
1/2oz honey bourbon
1/2oz triple sec
1/2oz pineapple juice
1oz sweet & sour mix (lime & lemon juice mixed with a simple sugar syrup)
1/2oz raspberry puree/ handful of fresh raspberries muddled into the drink
1 orange wedge
Shake all ingredients and strain over crushed ice.
