Italian Rye cocktail.

Post by Patchez »

I was out visiting the female child and she and her husband took us to an Italian joint called Marcella's in Columbus OH. Where I discovered, scanning the cocktail menu, what they called the Italian Rye. A wonderful concoction of Dickel Rye, Cynar, and Cointreau with a twist of lemon peel.

My it was lovely. It was intriguing as well as I had never heard of Cynar, pronounced Chee-nar. Turns out it a an Italian bittersweet liqueur made with 13 different herbs. The largest component, the base if you will, is, get this, Artichoke. Yeah. Artichoke. It's basically used in place of normal bitters and as a digestif. Learn something new every time you go into a bar. It keeps the magic alive.

I did not get the ratios so I'll have to do some home research. It was spicy with a citrus pop at the end. Damn I enjoyed the two with the meal.

Goes to indicate that there are many unknown booze treasures. It is an ethical imperative that we discover them. And Patchez is quite the frontiersman.
Don't worry. We're in no hurry.

You can't get watermelon flavored avocados in Ohio either. Only Pennsylvania.

Rye, you say?

Now you're speaking my language. I might have to do some experimenting with this recipe myself. Thanks!

Do enjoy R & C. It was quite tasty but I haven't had the chance to revisit it and play with it yet.

Upon further review, it looks like it's just a French version of a Manhattan.

Rye 2 parts
Cointreau 1 part
2 dashes of Cynar

Instead of just stirring with, it looks like they also strain it over ice. Maybe cause they add more than 1 part Cointreau?

I'm obsessed with this now, hahaha, have you tried to recreate it?

What now?

I`d go with two parts strained, that always works
