INGREDIENTS
1 teaspoon sugar or 1 tablespoon brown sugar
2 fluid ounces vodka
crushed ice cube
1 whole lime, quarter with skin on
1 dawa stick, (I used a cinnamon stick) twisted in creamed honey
DIRECTIONS
Put lime and sugar into a whisky tumbler.
Crush limes slightly, add ice and pour in the vodka.
At this point you twist a dawa stick into some honey and add the stick to the drink. A wooden honey stick or other type of stick twisted in honey will work.
Muddle limes with dawa or honey stick. The more you crush the limes into the mixture and stir the sweeter the taste.
I don't know what it is with African countries and honey based drinks. I remember going to an Ethiopian restaurant and having a honey wine that I really liked. But it wasn't mead, I'm not sure what the difference is, but whatever.
I don't know what a Dawa stick is, so I just used a cinnamon stick.

Re: Dawa and other African cocktails
African Honey wine is a lot like mead although with some bittering agent that gives it a hop like flavor. It's called Tej if I recall correctly.

Re: Dawa and other African cocktails
This was (surprisingly) very good. Of course, I was pretty drunk when I made it, so I didn't use a stick. I just heated up some honey to make it a little less viscous, and then poured it in and stirred it with a spoon.Rye and Coke wrote: ↑Sat Aug 01, 2020 10:43 amINGREDIENTS
