Get outta here. You must not get ESPN wherever you live then.peetie44 wrote:You're right about the A-Rod vs Bonds HOF question; though neither man is exactly loved and cherished by members of the media.

Yeah...you're right...I gotta admit that A-Rod would probably win any popularity contest between Bonds and himself amongst the media.Chimneyfish wrote:Get outta here. One thing that helps A-Rod is that his steroid issue is perceived by many observers (admittedly, many in the media) to be a bothersome blip in an otherwise great career, whereas Bonds' steroid questions, controversies and his seemingly perpetual court case are like The Thing That Wouldn't Die and it sometimes feels like the steroid issues were part of his career forever. Then you have retired HOFers like Willie Mays (pro-Barry) and Hank Aaron (con) weighing in on the subject and that collector guy making headlines by branding Bonds' record-breaking ball with an asterisk, etc. Also, A-Rod was perceived as being, if reluctant, at least somewhat cooperative with investigators, while Bonds has done little to dispel the belief of many that he is always uncooperative and usually adversarial when questioned about steroids. On top of all this, Bonds seems to inspire the notion that he will only cooperate with the court under threat of subpoena and criminal charges and this isn't helping his case with the fans and the media one bit.
I personally agree with you 100% on there being (and will probably be more) hypocrisy shown in the A-Rod/Bonds HOF comparisons but, while it ain't necessarily fair, the often arbitrary human-perception element is what it is.

If A-Roid's head doubled in size then there's something that can't be ignored.

You're saying helmet size is more damning evidence than a positive steroids test?Mayhem!! wrote:If A-Roid's head doubled in size then there's something that can't be ignored.
I'm not denying Bonds used steroids, but I also don't follow the "I don't like him therefore he's not good at baseball" philosophy. I definitely don't think HoF voters should think that way. I don't like Manny but he was a really good baseball player.

Giants? In the World Series? Don't you know that they would never be able to hit off Halladay, Lee, Oswalt, and Hamels in the postseason? You're bordering on sacrilege.J. Tequila wrote:If it's a Tribe-Giants World Series you bet your ass I'm coming up there.

The experts didn't realize the power of the beard. And I still don't know how a 130 pound pot head can throw a baseball 90 + MPH.
Anyway, it must be great to have your team be World Series champs. Seriously. I'm fucking 44 years old and I still don't know what that's like.

He was one of the best right-handed hitters to ever play the game. The guy could fall out of bed and hit a double.
But, he was not a good baseball player. He was a butcher in the outfield and one of the dumbest baserunners I've ever seen.
The Indians drafted and developed him so I know Manny.
