You win one world series and you do a reality show? Why? You don't need one, you just won the WS. Yanks, we don't need one, turn on CNN or ESPN, wait long enough, you'll hear a Yankees story. That's our reality TV.

No, the article says they were already considering the Giants and then the World Series win sealed the deal. Probably because there are so many good characters and storylines on the team, and the fact that the best pitching staff in baseball were all homegrown guys. And maybe because they've won more games and sent more players to the Hall of Fame than any other franchise in baseball- I don't know exactly.

I'm glad you admit that ESPN is obsessed with the Yankees. I agree. But one thing you can't understand is what it's like to be picked by everyone to lose every single series in the postseason, but then win them all. The Yankees have never been underdogs to win a World Series home game that they ended up winning. But let me tell you- your bourbon will never taste so sweet. The Yankees have the most fans and therefore the most money, and in a sense it's good that they're the most successful franchise sports. But there's still some things that their fans won't be able to understand or appreciate, and there's still some compelling storylines that exist and are worth making a reality show about.

I've been a Giants fan all my life. My parents have been Giants fans all their lives. Neither of us have witnessed a Championship before. There are some moments that any true baseball fan should be able to appreciate. Just let me enjoy this one offseason. The Yankees don't have to win everything.

We don't have to win everything, but we want to win everything. and so do you. I agree with everything you posted, but I must point out. the Yanks have the plus of being in the number one media market in the country. None of us decided this, it's just the way shit turned out.And I know we have a fucking ton of frontrunners, but I can say this, I saw Reggie Jackson play, how many of these sideways wearing NY Yankee "fan" hat motherfuckers can say that?
We have two different histories, you and I, and just because we won a whole fucking lot does not diminish our devotion to the team.yeah, you guys had a harder time but that does not mean you are more devoted to your team than I am. I know where you are coming from, my wife is an Angels fan, we butt heads all. day. and that's OK, just because we've we've one a bunch doesn't make our fan base wrong, and just because it took you a while to win one ( and i do admit, i doubted you guys every step of the way ), doesn't somehow give you some kind of "all knowing real baseball fan" thing over us.
Our one downfall is, we have more fake fans than real ones. Trust me, we follow this shit too.

and on opening day, I'll be wearing my Thurman Munson shirt. Legit. always have been, always will be.

If I implied that Yankees fans aren't devoted then I misspoke and I apologize. As a baseball guy, I've always appreciated how big the sport is in the North East. What I meant is that one side-effect of the Yankee's huge popularity is that their fans will never be able to realize what it's like to be huge underdogs from the very beginning of the postseason and then go on to prove everyone wrong by winning it all. That plot plus all the interesting characters make for a great story, and the people at Showtime in charge of getting ratings apparently agree. It'll be like Hard Knocks except it won't end when the regular season begins. I think that any real baseball fan will want to watch it.

I agree, and you are right, as evidenced by this memory. 1999 World Series, game 4, we won the first three. My girlffriend at the time, another lifelong Yankee fan, went to bed in the 7th inning. We won, what did I do? No phone calls, no nothing. cleaned up the glasses on the living room table and went to bed. next morning, we woke up, got ready for work, she asked me on the way out the door, "we win?", I said "yep", she said "good". No smile, no High Five, no nothing. It was like, just another morning. Even at work, in The Bronx no less, it was, "yeah, we got another one".
After reading your posts, and thinking about my wife and the in-laws, all die hard Angels fans, so much so - my eight year old step son has season tickets. An 8 year old... with season tickets... To hear them talk about the 2002 WS, you would think they won the damn thing 20 minutes ago. They remember every moment, every pitch, every out, everything. She said the same thing, they savor their WS victories more, and overall you are both right.

I would savor a WS victory if my team ever wins one before I drop dead. Not bloody likely though.

I would savor a Super Bowl victory too. That ain't happening any time soon either.

In the meantime, there's booze.

We're all in agreement that Mickey Mantle was one of the greatest legends to ever live, right?

Oh, and in case that wasn’t enough, the details of the arrest show just how ugly an incident this really was. Cabrera cussed out the arresting officers, ran out into the street and played the “do you know who I am?” card.

Johnnie Cochran woulda played the pennant-race card.
