Those kids should be compensated, they put asses in seats. Who the hell cares if Terrell Pryor is driving around in a new car with dealer plates? I got bigger shit to worry about.
BMMS is wrong.

I wish all these people who now are supportive of the logical position that college athletes should be paid their market value were around back when Reggie Bush and USC were "cheating."

Re: 2011 College Football
Well let me ask you this: can they first subtract the cost of their out-of-state tuition's from this compensation? Because I worked full-time to pay for every credit hour I ever took, for every book I ever bought, for every page I ever had to print out, and for every morsel of food I wanted to eat out of the cafeteria. But ya knowChimneyfish wrote:I wish all these people who now are supportive of the logical position that college athletes should be paid their market value were around back when Reggie Bush and USC were "cheating."

Re: 2011 College Football
Huh? I don't understand your point.
I'm saying that the value of a person's work is what somebody is willing to pay for it. College football players give up the opportunity to have normal jobs in order to produce something of higher value. From an economic perspective, Andre Johnson having to work at a McDonalds in Miami instead of playing football there would be a misallocation of resources. If people aren't allowed to make voluntarily trades at market value then seedy hedge fund managers will always be around to take advantage of the situation. The current atmosphere of the NCAA results in incentives that contradict its stated moral and legal interests, which is a problem.

Re: 2011 College Football
Exactly. The purpose of college is to pay lots of money to get a piece of paper that is supposed to give you the ability to get a high-paying job. That's the payback: the high-paying job in the future. That's why you work nights and weekends and drink endless amounts of coffee and rarely sleep, get fat from poor dieting and little exercise. In the hopes of a future return on your investment.Chimneyfish wrote:Huh? I don't understand your point.

Nobody says they need that piece of paper. They can always go straight to the pros.

Re: 2011 College Football
all these investigations, penalties, potential player suspensions, coach firings, make it very difficult to handicap a football game.

Today I found out that the athletic programs at Oklahoma, Florida State, Auburn, Arizona State, Texas A&M, and of course SMU have all had more NCAA major infractions than USC, Ohio State, or Miami.peetie44 wrote:USC vs Ohio State in the Rose Bowl...

I just can't see a program that once had Bobby Bowden at his helm being anything but classy and full of characterChimneyfish wrote:Today I found out that the athletic programs at Oklahoma, Florida State, Auburn, Arizona State, Texas A&M, and of course SMU have all had more NCAA major infractions than USC, Ohio State, or Miami.peetie44 wrote:USC vs Ohio State in the Rose Bowl...

Re: 2011 College Football
Let me know if anyone finds a reputable online book offering odds against Bryant Moniz winning the Heisman. I'm trying to get some darkhorse bets in before the season.
