Drinking rut, looking for recommendations ...

Post by PFrank »

Well, I'm sort of stuck on the daily Gin & Tonic. There's an occasional break with whiskey and bourbon, but not much. So, in order to shake things up, I'm looking for some new drinks to try. The following parameters are important though:

[*]Simple to make.
[*]Absolutely, positively, no sweet drinks of any kind. Cola, fruit juice, etc., no thanks. Bitter is better.

Any ideas? :D

Strong black tea with scotch or whiskey.
But honestly, just get a good bottle of scotch and drink it neat.

It's hard to argue with scotch served neat. :)

That aside, any drinks featuring tonic come to mind? I tried whiskey with tonic and a lemon twist and its not bad, but can't see in in the regular rotation.

Hmmm, can't help ya there. I almost never drink tonic. Even with gin, I'll just have a few ice cubes and a squeeze of fresh lemon. Other than that it's beer and whiskey/scotch. Cheers buddy.

whisky/dark rum and ginger beer, you could try switching to wine, it's really easy to get caught up in apparently, or beer.

Personally I like club soda better than tonic. So you could try a gin rickey for a slightly different taste. If you look the recipie up online it will tell you its made in a highball. i make mine in a rocks glass as follows:
fill glass halfway or less with rocks
squeeze and drop in lime
fill just above 3/4 glass with gin
add a splash of club soda
enjoy.

Also try a tequila and tonic.

best of all....bourbon neat! If you feel the need to mix it up, just change brands, each one has a different taste.

Vodka and tonic. Not as good as gin and tonic, but you'll like the taste of it anyway.

go to the liquor store, spin round in circles with your eyes closed, grab something at random and chug it, bring a bit of excitement back to your boozing

Drinking whatever is cheapest, and I mean dirt cheapest bum wine/bottom shelf-past its best-by-date booze wrapped in a paper bag always puts things into some sort of perspective.
