Booze preference for Egg nog?

Post by Artful Drunktective »

^ ^ ^ See poll above

In lieu of the non-existent Thanksgiving holiday here in Germany, I was looking for egg nog to no avail. I discovered it's because the only egg nog that exists is "Egg Punch", which is already premixed with booze- in this case, rum. Egg nog does not exist independently from booze here.

So basically it's like buying those large jugs of premixed Margaritas that you always need to add extra tequila to because only a 13 year old could cop a buzz off of it. I myself prefer brandy but I think I will just buy more rum to add to this concoction and kick it up a notch. What is your preference if you chose to make an egg nog cocktail?

I voted the mix. cognac sounded tempting but as the only add in it might take over too much

That egg punch looks very odd. Germany is indeed a truly bizarre land.

I voted bourbon and I may actually try egg nog with it this winter. I tried the egg nog on it's own for the first time a few years back and really didn't like it. Maybe the bourbon will make it tolerable.

I think Rum is best, right?

I'd say brandy is the best. Maybe even cut brandy!

I think traditionally it was Rum, Whiskey and Brandy. At least that's what I go with.

I think Oett once again gets a tiny trophy only because from what I read online, cognac and rum are indeed, the recommended concoction for eggnog.

I can't pick just one. I think, then, that they'll all have to be blended together. Happy hangover.

I tried some eggnog for the first time at my liquor store tasting and there was this good brand (Christ, I can't remember the name) that had rum and bourbon. I used to hate egg nog based on the name alone. It just didn't sound appetizing. Like who would want to drink an egg slurry... or something called "nog." I realized that's a dumb reason to be prejudiced against something, so I tried it and holy fuck balls it was good. It wasn't what I was expecting at all, it tasted like a milk shake. I can see how egg nog can be dangerous, because it went down smooth as warm butter.

^ ^ ^ Oett was skeptical about the egg nog too at first but then agreed it was like a holiday white Russian of sorts. We had egg nog a few times lately...rum some of the time and cognac the other. We are in agreement that the rum was a better accompaniment, although I still think brandy is da winner winner chicken dinner.
