The Absinthe Review

Post by Rooster »

There was a rumor going around not too long ago that absinthe was going to be reviewed by the FDA, and considered for legal sale in America. It could have just been a drunken pipedream, but several fellows insisted on it, one of whom works for the bastards that confiscate it when it tries to enter the country.

Anyone else heard any rumors or good news/bad news about this most delicious and rediciulously expensive of beverages?

There is no indication that the US government will be reviewing the legal status of absinthe anytime soon even though the drink is legal in most of the world. Any products you see for sale in the States that claim to be made from wormwood have as much in common with absinthe as Tang does with blood organge juice.

Right.
Unless Seagram's finds a market for absinthusiasts, it's never gonna happen.

And it doesn't matter anyway.

Be stealthy and you'll find a way to get good absinthe in the US.

I dunno why your gov't hasn't accepted it yet.

We can get pretty allright absinthe here legal, and good shit semi-legal through mail

Hills Absinthe is actually next on my list, and it's just down the street at my SAQ (gov't liquor store).

any opinions on Hills?

Yes, it is absolute shit. It is not really absinthe Lysol-flavored Windex. Drink Kübler 53, Cisco, anything but Hills. Hills is just a scam that costs way too much and tastes well, really disgusting.

the reason the hills is not that great is cause of its content, and canada is not really allowed to hav e anything stronger then 85$ bottles, still comepared to the stuff with the box and spoon which you need to buy if ytou want to drink hills, but the americain stuff has southern wormwood which is not the same as wormwood, still the green bottle of hills is better.
the bottle sucks and you don't get the spoon.
Please will someone get this man a drink! hurry its an emergancy.

That is one of the most utterly incoherent posts I have ever read on any forum.

I hope you were drunk when posting.

I fear you were undrunk.

Which Absinthe Should I Buy?

Post by Elijah Craig »

I'm about to purchase a bottle, but I'm not sure what to spend $80 on. I want to get the best quality/quantity for $80 I know that's probably asking alot, but that's the quest I'm on.

Now, I know a lot of "Absinthe" drinkers apparently despise Absinthe Gold King of Spirits, but I shelled out the $200 and I thought the herbal conditioned bottle (herbs come in the bottle) was actually cool. Also the flavor wasn't as disgusting as almost every review I've read on it states (I like strong liquor).

These are a few I was considering. I'd greatly appreciate any familiarized advice in regards to this contemplation. Anyway here's the Absinthes I'm considering:

Mata Hari - 60% vol. 35 mg/kg thujon / austria

Mari Mayans - 70% vol. 35 mg/kg (I think) thujon / spain

Alandia's Moulin Vert - 68% vol. 35 mg/kg thujon / france?

Absenta Serpis 65 (red) - 65% vol. 10 or 35 mg/kg thujon? / czech?

Bairnsfather Bitter (Sebors last recipe) - 55% vol. mg/kg 32-35 thujon / czech

Hapsburg (red?) - 85% vol. mg/kg 10-35 thujon? / bulgeria

Montana 68 - 68% vol. mg/mk 10-35 thujon? / spain

Any opinions or feed back would be extremely appreciated.

Thanks in advance...

The brands mentioned above are both low quality and grossly overpriced. There is little correlation between price and quality when it comes to absinthe. As a rule of thumb, if the product is labeled as abinth (without the "e") avoid it.

Also, ignore all thujone claims -- they are just marketing gimicks. Thujone is not a drug and will not produce any drug-like effects.
