Well, I bought a liter of Ancient Age and finshed it in the same night... well, in about 4 hours. Loved it, too. Great stuff, IMO.

This subject has been posted many times before, and what it really comes down to is you have to drink Bourbon for awhile to really understand the flavor and all the different subelties from brand to brand. Then you need to decide what you like. (somebody tell me how to spell that word please) /\

subtleties, I think.

anyway, that's precisely what i was trying to espouse, you gotta play the field, find where you fit in, then go from there. All of this "going straight for the top shelf" just doesn't make sense to me. WT101, Bulleit, EW, Beam Black, none of 'em are top shelf, but as Bourbon's, they are top notch. Granted, I love my Booker's, I love Stagg and so on, but I'm not foolish enough to forget the shit right under those, that can keep pace with, and in some cases come out ahead of 'em.

Hell, who isn't engaged on one drunk night on this board yet? And half a good 1/4 are married now. I think his retirement was mine before the lovly lady came along and drank his blood. Now she is mesmorized.

Amen, brother!
That's exactly the same approach I took to wine a few years back, and it worked wonders with the snob crowd. I'm currently doing the same thing with bourbon, and I feel that my life is richer for the experience.
In a nutshell: Play that field! If you're experimenting, never buy the same thing twice! You'll find what's best the best way - your way!

I found some Rebel Yell a couple of days ago! The only bourbon's I've had here were Beam White, Beam Black, Four Roses and Penny Packer. And some bottle of Old Virginia in France or something. But that Rebel Yell is great bourbon! It has character.

I like Rebel Yell too. I always feel kinda goofy buying it, though. Not because of the name, but because I yell when I get to the cash register.
