Educate me about Scotch

Post by danger awesome »

(please)

I realised upon seeing Jozer's 'single malt sunday' post that i own no scotch at all. And was deepl saddened and disappointed with myself. So today i bought (20 notes, ouch...) a bottle of Johnnie Walker Black. I'm just going to get a couple ice cubes.

So, what do i need to know and try/buy?

You are in the land of fine scotch. I like Balvenie and Dalmore and a new favorite in Speyside. I find more interesting scotches in Europe than we can get here.

Oh and an englisher told me once that the only thing you put in a glass of scotch is more scotch is very true for single malts. So save the ice for the JWB.

Try the 'butter' variety.
“Süßen witwe Mutter-Hosen — kommst du hier mit mein knackenpfeife schnell, oder Ich zeige Ihnen mein Zuhälter Hand!”

"Rectum? It nearly killed him!"

Oh, indeed. LadyRed sent me a bottle of Johnnie Black for HBE that lasted all of about 3 hours. As for the single malts... Oban, the warm and peaty candy that it is, has never treated me poorly. The Macallans are all fine varieties (10, 12 and 18 year). The Glenlivet works in a pinch, although there are many who find it too reminiscent of iodine wafting down the hallways of a hospital ward.

Good luck, Dan. Scotch is an expensive hobby.

Oban is wonderful.
Glenlivet, to me, is like drinking water that will have me hugging the toilet inside of four hours...
Not always bad, mind you. Sometimes that degree of self-destruction is necessary.
Aaaaand that's about all I know about scotch.

I'm by no means a Scotch expert, but here are four that are pretty damn good.
-Aberlour 10 Year (Speyside)
-Speyburn 10 Year (Speyside)
-Old Pulteney 12 Year (Highlands)
-Deanston 12 Year (Highlands)
The man who intoxicates himself on bad whisky is sometimes moved to kill his wife and set his house on fire, but the victim of applejack is capable of blowing up a whole town with dynamite and of reciting original poetry to every surviving inhabitant.
