Morro Bay December, 2021, Part II

Post by Dear Booze »

Kam wanted to take an Uber to another nearby town to continue drinking at a bar called Old Cayucos Tavern. It's a pretty good place, but we were all pretty loaded and, with the exception of Kam, we all understood that going to Cayucos was a terrible idea. We just didn't tell him this.

Someone bought a twelve pack of something and we gathered in our room and continued drinking. I finished off my jerkey and the Hot Takis, and passed out.

Somewhere around 3:30 A.M. I woke up and ran to the bathroom to puke. Oh shit. I was puking up blood. I finally managed to kill myself.

No. Wait. It was those fucking Hot Takis!

I went back to sleep.

I can relate to this. I drank moonshine on an empty stomach at a poker game, and then we all went to the bar after.

We did myriad shots, some of them were red-colored and came in test tubes -- how novel.

I made the same mistake: "Holy fuck, I'm puking blood!" Blamed the moonshine. Later rumination revealed the mundane truth.
Don't worry. We're in no hurry.

Vegas, January 2022

Post by Dear Booze »

Oh Vegas, I love you. But you are letting some bullshit get between us, aren't you?

Mrs Booze requested a trip to LV for her birthday, so she got what she asked for. This was ours first trip to the desert jewel, together, since we were robbed several years ago. That tale is somewhere on the board.

This was my fourth trip there since the world went to shit in March, 2020. And it seems that it's more restrictive than any of those other three times. Sure, at least my favorite bars and casinos were open, but the mask requirements are now over the top. The Airlines didn't do us any favors either. We flew to Vegas on Thursday morning, but our return flight, scheduled for Sunday was canceled. It forced us to rent a car for the shitty six hour drive home.

With that said, we were able to have a decent time which included the following bars: Oddwood at Area 15, Frankie's Tiki Lounge, Golden Tiki, The Mint, Atomic Liquors, Whiskey Liquor Bar, and Caberet Bar.

We also drank at the bars at Casino Royal, Flamingo, Bally's, Plaza, Cromwell, and Harrah's.

Plus they brought us "free" drinks while we gambled at Flamingo, Bally's, and Paris. All in all, it was still a pretty good time. I just wish the stupid mask shit would be behind us. I remember being promised that the vaccine would give us our freedom back. Oh yea, and the booster. Now what?

So what exactly are they doing? If you walk into a bar without a mask does the bartender take a shotgun from under the bar and tell you to get the fuck out? I haven't been to a bar here in San Diego since the Omicron crap started and I wonder if the bars are enforcing masks. The last time I was in a bar one of my favorite bartenders got upset with some guy in a mask because she couldn't here what he was saying with that fucking diaper over his mouth. I can't imagine her enforcing mask mandates.

If you are inside a building, you have to wear a mask. Some places are way more strict than others. All of them have a stupid poster that shows the proper way to wear a mask when "actively drinking or smoking." I wish I would have taken a picture of that propaganda. It's all cartoony, so as to seem friendly. Kinda how I imagine the Nazi stuff looked.

While playing Pai Gow at Paris, my mask slipped down below the tip of my nose, not even exposing my nostrils, and the dealer and pit boss both yelled at me. Seriously. The dealer actually yelled. I laughed because she had a strong southeast asian accent and I couldn't make out what she was saying at first. Then, the pit boss came over and started in on me.

At Bally's, I watched a dealer call the pit boss over to rat out a cocktail server for wearing her mask below her nose. I turned to see who they were taking about and saw the poor girl walking through the casino, thirty feet away, hands full of drinks, with no way to pull up her mask; her hands were fucking full!

That's what it has come down to. I started wondering if they get some sort of "see something/say something bonus."

Generally, when I was was off the strip, at any of my favorite dives, they didn't care. They still had signs posted, they just never said anything.

Mexico, March 2022, Day I

An hour ago, I was in Fresno. Now I'm in San Diego. Gotta switch planes in a couple hours. If I had more time, I would find Hugh and take him out for drinks.

Mexico, Marxh 2022, Day 1, Part II

We were delayed in San Diego, so we arrived in Cabo a couple hours late. It was a blessing AND a curse. The bad part was, we lost a chunk of time of our vacation. But after finally getting settled in and finally heading out for our first round of cocktails, we discovered an error in our planning for this trip: Many colleges are on spring break. Fuck. Spring break. Fuck.

Our resort is infested with swarms of kids being stupid. Girls yelling "WOOOOO!", Boys calling eachother "Bro," "Brah," and "Dude."

They are all rude to the staff and they are all dressed like the are heading to a cut rate New Jersey nightclub. The crowds in front of all bars were ten deep; getting a drink was impossible. They are all rude to staff and other guests. Fuck this is going to be a nightmare.

Our only hope is that they burn themselves out early and begin to thin out over the next 24 hours.

Mexico, Maxico 2022, Day II

Spent the morning and afternoon avoiding the hungover spring breakers by sitting at the pool drinking rum drinks, one after another. Since we were tipping obscene amounts, the waiter was on us like wet on the back of an undocumented worker.

By about 4:00, we were too drunk to make important decisions about anything beyond food, drink, and cigarettes.

At 6:00, we left the resort by cab to head into town. This would have been a five minute walk, but we were unable to safely use our legs.

Damn food! You drunks understand what a buzz kill a meal can be. It served to make us all very tired. Fuck. I think I was passed out, in bed by 9:00.

Mexico, March, 2022, Day III, Part I

Same as yesterday. Woke up, sat by the pool, got drunk. But today, a managing member of the staff yelled at me for smoking. What The Fuck? It's Mexico. It's the last bastion of free world freedom. This was the place where it was cool to shoot your wife in the forehead with a .45 in an attempt to reenact William Tell's prowess. Seriously, they're turning into woke, smoking Nazis?
