Drive-in movies memories…you got any?

Post by Artful Drunktective »

If you have ever been to one, then you know the fun and debauchery that always ensued. Share those memories please!

For those of you who aren’t privy….Drive In movies mainly consists of hanging out watching a multitude of movies on a warm summer night. Underage drinking. Messing around in the backseat of the car. Smoking joints. Greasy foods. Hiding in the trunk to avoid buying movie tickets. John Travolta singing “Sandy”… It was like a teenage tailgating paradise. I don’t even think I successfully remember any of the movies I “saw” at the drive-in. Same with some sporting events.

This one time I was on a date and the guy was sitting in the driver’s seat and tried to lean over to make out with me and as he did he accidentally kicked on the headlight brights and it blasted the entire drive-in parking lot like a spotlight. Kinda embarrassing.

A different drunken escapade night...a broken whisky bottle ended up in my trunk. Evidently whiskey was still in the bottle because when it broke it spilled all over the trunk. My car reeked of it for weeks. That was fun.

ME: No officer, I assure you I wasn’t drinking. How could I have been if the whisky was in the trunk!?!?!"

ME: No Dad, seriously! That was not even my whisky!" (If my Dad knew anything about my drinking habits at the time which he clearly didn’t, he should have known it would have been a broken vodka bottle.)

Yes. During the hot summer nights in California's great Central Valley, Drive-in movies were cheep entertainment.

Parents piled all of their PJ-wearing children into the Oldsmobile and set out for Moonglow, or Starlight, or The Star Drive-In Theater for a night of family entertainment.

For teens, it was a rite of passage. It was an opportunity to drink, fight, fuck, and do a variety of really stupid shit.

Those drive-ins were so popular that I used to go alone because I knew I would find dozens of my friends there.

We used to bring small weber grills and cook hotdogs.

We brought frisbees.

We brought styrofoam ice chests full of Ice House Lager.

We even brought guitars and other instruments of destruction.

Hell, it was no different than going to the mall or a dance, or a Walmart parking lot, or whatever kids do in other regions of the country. Or world. The underlying reason for everything we did was really to get laid. Everything else was just window dressing designed to fill time and burn energy.

We didn't have drive - ins. Even vhs player was a rare commodity. We had crowded vhs watching sessions of shittiest movies available! Including porn taped over some communist concert. Yup, good times.

This whole concept seems to me, then again lots of weird stuff actually works.

Also to above post - I recently watched a documentary called Chuck Norris vs. Communism. It was at the same time interesting, a bit sad and absolutely hilarious.
