What do real irish people think about irish pubs, I`d like to know. Accurate or made up tourist attraction?

If Mr. Viking ever makes it to the States, I'll make a point of taking him to one and report back.

There's definitely ones that just throw up some flags and call it a day. See the Rumjacks' song on this
McGurk's is owned by a real Irish guy though, so take that as you will.

A large number of Irish pubs, that is, pubs in Ireland, were refitted in the 1990s using identikit fittings, in a pastiche of the Irish style, which I find hilarious

Just hit one of these original "bavarian style" german pubs. The average german pub is a smoky dive with two or three old guys as furniture, nothing more.Mr. Viking wrote:A large number of Irish pubs, that is, pubs in Ireland, were refitted in the 1990s using identikit fittings, in a pastiche of the Irish style, which I find hilarious
Oh, and no weizen or white beer to be found. It`s not a deli or something. Pretzels? What is that?

Brandonman, I was in St. Louis several years ago and visited a Irish Pub near the Double Tree. Read: http://www.drunkard.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=69752
Any idea if the place is still there?

Dear Booze,
"Maggie O'Brien's" is down the street from the hotel you mentioned. I've not been there yet, myself
