I also long for a pint at the Speaker, arguably the greatest pub in Westminster. Central London pub but with a local vibe. They also do some of the finest beef and horseradish sandwiches in the land. The ham and mustard sandwiches are very good too.

This place used to be called Im Fass.

But now it's been converted into a shit hole.

Back in 77 it was my go to because GI's didn't like the
Low key place it used to be.
Often went there for lunch and sometimes dinner.
Best kept secret of the Cold War
And it was my second home after the Army.
If you got shit faced no problem
They would call a mini car to take you
Back to the Army.
I never paid a dime for the mini car rides.

Jimbo's. An ugly old roadhouse located close to my house. When it first opened, over 60 years ago, it was in the middle of nowhere. The town has grown around it, but it hasn't changed. In the summer, the sweet old swamp cooler provides relief from the 110 degree desert heat. The cocktails are served in plastic cups, the jukebox has nothing but shitty music and the sound of pool balls slapping together is magical. The bartenders are the best and the regulars entertain me with stories of concrete and drywall jobs.

Perfect dive bar attached to an all night diner. Apparently because the cops were always called, it had started to become a problem. The times I was there, I didn't notice anything, but whatever.

Hated to see it go.

John's Big Deck. A roof top bar in KC. It's still there, but I'm not. Loved this place.

Jimbo's is now open. No Masks, No social distancing, No food needed. None of this is supposed to be happening. The owners just said "Fuck It, we've had enough of this bullshit." I went there last night. It was great. I'm hungover. Job well done.
DRINK!
